Totoro Chinchilla Chinchilla Wolcott, IN

We have a medium ebony male chinchilla that is looking for his new home. His name is Totoro! Totoro has already been through several homes, before he came to us, so here’s hoping this next one is his forever home! He made is way over to our rescue a bit ago, after spending some time at one of our foster homes, and he’s now available for adoption! We are told that Totoro is 2 years old, which means he was born 12/2017.

Totoro’s color is called medium ebony, which means that he is a charcoal color all over his entire body. This color is darker over his back, but even this charcoal color wraps around his belly! This is different than many chinchillas, which have a white belly.

Here’s what Totoro’s foster home has to say about him:

“Totoro is very social. He comes to the front of the cage every time for pts! Loves attention!! He loves ear / face / chin scratches. He does not like being picked up. Being held is tolerable for short times, if he feels secure. He may nibble (not bite) if he wants to be put down. He loves hay and uses his hammock often. He makes cute soft squeaky noises (like a guinea pig) pretty often. He’s not overly energetic, and can live fine in a smaller cage.”

In addition, Totoro’s previous home informed us that he likes pumice stones, treats, and neck scratches, but does not like being held or his butt being touched.

Totoro loves his wheel here at the rescue. If you are interested in purchasing a wheel, please check with us, we often have used ones for sale. Unfortunately, the pet store wheels are too small and are not safe for chinchilla use.

This chinchilla would make a great “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had chinchillas before, and who understands that this chinchilla is not going to be one that will be held all the time (and more on his terms). He did get playtime in his previous home, and he very well may enjoy that in his new home.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (2 pounds of Mazuri pellets), a goodie bags of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. He will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.
