Meet Barkley

BARKLEY is 10 years old and weighs 16 pounds.

My name is Barkley, but that's not because I bark a lot. Actually, I only really bark when the door bell rings and that is my job to alert the house, don't you think?

As you can see, I am a little guy and don't have the thickest coat of fur, so I tend to get a bit chilly in cooler weather. I do like my sweaters, so don't be embarrassed to get me a wardrobe full of them. The more, the merrier!

A curious fact about me is that I am a Phantom Poodle. That may sound spooky and it doesn't mean that I mysteriously appear and disappear — I am not a frightening poltergeist or a new or rare breed – just a toy version of a regular poodle. The term has something to do with our coloring — some silly thing humans invented. We certainly don't care!

We poodles are renowned for being smart and quick to learn. Yup, that applies to me. I respond well to commands — especially: SIT, STAY and UP HERE. I'm sure I know more, but those are the ones I hear most often. Now you know that UP HERE most likely means: Get up here on the couch Barkley — ah, music to my ears. That's my most favorite order. My best and favorite activities: snuggling, sleeping on the couch and going for walks. I'm not the quickest when walking as the arthritis in my hips can act up — but that hasn't stopped me yet! And because my eyesight isn't what it used to be, it makes me slightly unsure when walking — but that also hasn't stopped me from getting out and having fun.

I'm not really too fond of other dogs — I have to get used to them. I find cats rather boring and useless. Not that I am much of a threat to them — all 16 glorious pounds of me can't be too scary to those feline balls of fur.

So what do you think? Are you interested in a magical poodle whose fur has changed color? You never know what wonderful things can happen if you choose me! Please choose me!

INTERESTED in BARKLEY? The first step is to fill out our online Adoption Application (address link below)

NOTE: All of our dogs live in foster homes so it is not possible to setup a meet and greet prior to submitting an adoption application. Filling out an application doesn't obligate you to adopt, but it does save your place in line if there are multiple people interested.

ADOPTION APPLICATION (Type or cut & paste the below website address into your browser): http://www.sdroregon.com/adoption-application.htm

If our Adoption Coordinator determines you are a good match they will contact you. This is a great opportunity for you to find out more about BARKLEY and decide if you would like to setup a meet and greet.

ADOPTION FEE is $150, and there’s a 10% Discount for Senior Citizens and Veterans.

Learn more about the ADOPTION PROCESS here (Type or cut & paste the below website address into your browser): http://www.sdroregon.com/adoption-process.htm

We apologize, but we are not able to answer individual questions about our dogs. We are a small, all-volunteer organization and we receive hundreds of inquiries. If you want to learn more about a particular dog, then please submit an Adoption Application. If your application is chosen, you will have the opportunity to meet the dog and to get answers to all of your questions. Thank you for your understanding.
