Sugar was originally found as a stray kitten in Waverly, Iowa, in 2015. She was adopted as a kitten in November 2015. She was recently returned to the rescue because her adopters did not want her anymore. Sugar is up to date on shots, re-tested FeLV / FIV negative, and spayed. She is back living in a foster home.

Sugar is now about 5-3/4 years old as of January 2022. Being returned was very hard on her. She was very upset. The 1st few days in her foster home, she hissed and hissed at anyone that came near her. She would not eat. We gave her space and time alone in her room. She then stopped hissing and finally ate. She was very depressed and hid for 2 weeks. Then one day, she came out on her own and let me pet her. Made me cry. She is still confused I am sure from losing the only home she has ever known. But she is learning to trust again.
So in a new home, I imagine she will hide again at first. You will need to set her up in a room alone and let her be until she is ready.

Once she settles in, she is an absolute sweetheart. Sugar is very friendly and loving. She enjoys being petted. She likes my older kind cat loving daughters. I think a home with older children would be best. Small children might overwhelm her. She did not like any other cats at first. She wasn't even around them, just looked at them in her carrier. Now she seems ok with other cats but you will want to set her up properly and take it slow.

Her next home Must Be a Forever Home. Adopt her and have her for the rest of her life. Before you apply, please make sure you are ready to commit the next possible 16 years to loving Sugar and taking care of her.

Sugar's adoption fee is $95.00.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $200 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
