Hot Rod may seem like a strange name for this little dog, but when he was rescued his back legs were paralyzed. He used a wheelchair to get around and boy was he fast. Shortly after joining Second Chance Pets he had back surgery. The progress this little guy has made is amazing. In just over a month he is running around with his foster siblings. He’s still a little wobbly but getting better every day. Seems maybe he was hit by a car before finding his way to the shelter. He doesn’t let his past get him down. He’s dog friendly, cat friendly, and kid friendly. Due to his fragile back he would do best in a home with no stairs. He would also do best with older children who will handle him gently. He’s a healthy boy, and in great shape, he just needs a little extra caution to ensure he doesn’t hurt his back again. He is doing great with house training, but it is still a work in progress. As he’s getting steadier on his feet he’s getting it figured out. He loves playing with toys with a friend or all alone. He’s a super sweet boy with a personality as big as his ears.

Adopter for this dog must reside in the immediate Houston/Galveston area and be at least 25 years old. A home visit may be required prior to this dog going to any home.

The adoption fee for a dog is $190 (or $245 for puppies) which includes State of Texas sales tax.


Adoptions are held on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Clear Lake Petco, 2410 Bay Area Boulevard. All dogs are microchipped, on heartworm protection, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed and treated for fleas. Since all of our dogs are in foster homes, an individual dog may not be at our weekly Adoption Event due to conflict with a foster's schedule. If you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please send an email to scpdogworld@gmail.com so that the Dog Coordinator can let you know if the dog will be at the Saturday Adoption Event at Petco.
