Chief Cattle Dog Mix Manhattan, KS

Are you a dog-lover who is looking for the most devoted friend you will ever have? Do you have LOTS of room for a dog to run and play; point and chase critters; and do all the things that dogs love to do? If so, then Chief is looking for you to be his new forever family.

Chief is a one year old 57 pound neutered male Australian Shepherd/Hound mix. He came to Purple PAWS from a small shelter in rural Kansas when his previous owner became unable to care for him.

Chief is potty-trained and up-to-date on all vaccinations and preventives. He is a smart, but stubborn boy with quite the personality. He knows “sit”, “lay down”, and “wait”, but he sometimes needs a treat to jog his memory. He has also come a long way with learning his manners since he came to Purple PAWS, but will need a family who will continue to consistently reinforce appropriate behaviors. He has made great progress in his dog socialization skills too. He gets along well with most dogs, but is still a little particular about large, high energy males. For this reason, a meet and greet with any potential adopters’ current dogs will be required. He has gotten along well with the dog-savvy cats he has been around too.

Chief’s ideal forever home would be a farm or acreage with lots of room for him to run, play, and explore. He would do best with an active family that would keep him busy and maybe even give him a “job” to do. He has demonstrated rudimentary heeling instincts and has pointed a rabbit at his current foster home. He also would prefer a home where he can spend most of his time with his people since being kenneled is not his favorite past time. If this sounds like you, Chief would love to meet you!
