Meet Heather Grey

Heather Grey came to Lucky Paws on January 19 with her two sisters Macy and Meredith. M&M were very friendly and quickly adopted together by a loving family. Heather needed a lot of work. A lot. She would hide under and in anything she could find to get away from her foster moms’ hands reaching out to pet. She would cower, bat, and hiss when you tried to show her love. She was very distrustful and needed a LOT of patience. She got to the point where she’d let you pet her briefly but was still nowhere near adoptable.

The turning point came when her foster moms went away for a few days on vacation. After going to a new foster home and being evaluated, it was determined that she would probably do best as a barn cat. In the meantime, her former fosters took her back for one last attempt before finding a warm barn for her. They decided to put her in a cage where she couldn’t hide, and get her to rely on humans and see that they were good. It was a few more days of uneasiness and fright, but she slowly came around. And two months after that, she’s still showing great progress! It made them sad to have to put her in a cage, but without that Heather would most certainly be in a barn right now.

Instead, she now runs to her foster moms when they open the door. She lets you pet her for minutes on end. She will even take treats out of your hand! She’s nowhere near perfect and will need a special, accepting, and most importantly experienced home to fall in love with her like her foster moms have. Heather will be a hard one for them to let go of but they already have four cats and a dog, and are one of our best fosters so we need to make sure they have the room for other cases like hers.

Heather would do best in a home without children because she’s still a little unpredictable. An experienced cat home is a must. She will still sometimes bat at you if you pet her for too long and run away at the sound of anything loud or scary. We need someone who understands that she’s a special case, that she’ll need patience, especially going to a new home. Can you be that family for her? She is certainly worth it!
