Meet Annie - special needs

Meet Annie! Annie is 6lb, 3 years old surrendered when her elderly male owner entered hospice care. Annie was very loved but her entire life and experiences were limited to one room and one person. Annie had never walked up steps, gone for a walk, pottied outside, or allowed anyone else but her one human to touch her. When Annie came to rescue, she was terrified and needed time to understand that her human was gone, but she had to carry on.
Annie has learned to go up and down steps, is crate trained, a good eater, healthy, active, and rides well in a car in her crate. Annie has been fostered by a couple experienced with the breed. Annie took to the husband within a week but it took several months before she would allow anyone else to touch her. Annie has done well with other chihuahuas and has started to show signs of playfulness. She can be possessive of her food bowl with other dogs, so is best fed in her crate.
Due to Annie's losses, she has a form of separation anxiety where she bonds strongly with only one person. This is not good for Annie, because she is anxious when her one person is not nearby. Annie is taking anti-anxiety medication and working on a behavior modification plan that will help her be able to relax and enjoy more people and situations. Annie is looking for a home that will continue with her plan so Annie can be her best self.

Annie will most likely take time to adjust to new people and new situations. She is reliably potty-pad trained (a big benefit during these cold winters!) and will potty outside too when taken out on schedule. Annie has not yet mastered a leash so a fenced yard has been great.
