While waiting to find her FURever home in the foster home, Gertrude sent a letter to share about her time in her foster home.

"Hello! My name is Gertrude but my friends call me Gertie. It's cold here! And you guys get a lot of that white stuff that covers the grass, too. I like to run through it and jump in drifts with my housemates but I get cold pretty quickly. My foster mom puts a coat on me sometimes and I do appreciate that. I've learned so many things in my foster home so far. I live with 3 other dogs, 2 cats, and a foster mom and dad. I learned that I really like other dogs to play with, but if they grumble or growl at me I run away. I'm not a fighter and don't like an altercation. I do enjoy friendly tumbles and jumping around with other dogs though! Mom says when I play with dogs, my paws look like bat wings as I fly through the air. My cat friends though, they don't like to play as hard as I do. Apparently, they would rather sleep...weird. When they hiss at me for playing too hard, I stop but I do like to try to snuggle. They are just so cute and soft! Another important thing about me is that I LOVE toys!! Mom bought me these Nylabone Extreme Chew toys and I could chew on them for hours! I like to switch up the flavors with different ones and then maybe chew on a stuffed animal or two. Sometimes though, I get too wrapped up in playing that I forget to tell my mom that I have to potty outside but I'm working on it! When my foster family leaves, they put me in my kennel and I never have potty accidents in there. I love my kennel, and will often take an afternoon nap in there just because it's so comfy. I also really like quiet time, and am getting used to noises from cars outside or around the house. Sometimes, I just need to go lay in my kennel alone and take a break from the scary noises for awhile while humans are being humans in the house. I call it my Safe Space. But when you're ready to snuggle or play again, I'm your girl! I need help learning how to walk on a leash, there's just so many scary noises outside that I'm not used to. Plus, this white stuff on the ground doesn't help me be out for very long to practice. Once the green grass comes back though, my foster mom says we're going running on the trail with the other dogs! I'm so excited! But mom says we're focusing on learning things inside the house right now instead. I'm trying to learn commands but right now I'd just rather have my foster mom hold me and play. I know I can get over some of this anxiety I have with new things as long as my new home gives me lots of love and patience! I promise to be a good girl and love you forever! I look forward to meeting you! Love, Gertie."

Update: "Now that the weather is much nicer, I’m enjoying walks on the leash! I also haven’t had an accident in the house for a couple of weeks so I’m finally getting the hang of the whole “potty outside” the thing that my foster mom and dad always say. Otherwise, I really enjoyed playing outside with the housemates and letting my black shiny coat soak up the sunshine. I started to really enjoy stuffed animal toys over the past month, but mom hides them from me now because she noticed I was eating them and then vomiting it up when she wasn’t looking. Oopsie! I also roam the house freely now and don’t
hide in my kennel. I’m getting better at this! Love, Gertie"
