Meet Thorin

It’s impossible not to fall for Thorin. There’s just so many pluses to this guy. At 11, he’s in great shape and looks and acts like a dog half his age. Weighing in at 27 pounds, Thorin has been well cared for his entire life and it shows. An owner surrender, he came to us because children were added to the ‘pack’ and Thorin did not tolerate that well. He’s not a dog that retreats to a corner to stay out of the way but wants to be wherever his humans are.

Thorin’s look is quite unique. Gorgeous red coat, little tail nubbin and a perfect sploot – he appears 100% corgi from most angles. Then you look at his face, and his nose is a couple inches too short and you scratch your head a bit. We think that’s Boston Terrier in him, and it gives him the look of an eternal puppy, making you want to snuggle him close!

Easy to live with? In his first home, Thorin was allowed to sleep on the human bed so his fosters allowed him to continue the practice. He curls up politely in an unused spot and is the perfect slumber companion. He lets you sleep till your alarm goes off and then sweetly comes up to cuddle and bury his nose in your neck while he says, “Good Morning.” While he loves an outing in the car or a brisk walk, he is equally happy crashing on the sofa while you watch TV or just being in the same room with you as you work on your computer. He also does well when left alone and has shown no signs of separation anxiety or destructive behavior.

An all-round cheerful fellow, Thorin is happy about getting up and happy about getting his meals. He is VERY happy about going on a walk and you would never know he was 11 years old by the way he moves out. He walks well on a leash but does pull at first and can be strong. Conversely, he’ll stop whenever you or your companion dog do. Thorin has had some bad experiences at a dog park in the past, so that will never be a place where you can take him. He reacts negatively to certain dogs while out on walks so we are working with the “watch” command to redirect his behavior.

The right balance of vocal and quiet, Thorin isn’t much of a barker in the house or the yard. He is, however, a talker and can vocalize with all sorts of grunts and gurgles. When he wasn’t fed breakfast on the day of his dental cleaning, he laid calmly beside his foster mom but grumbled under his breath non -stop. Twice a day, he finds a nice towel, or patch of carpet or grass, flips over on his back and gyrates madly while making the most vicious growling noise. It’ll bring you running the first couple times, but then you’ll get used to it!

We are looking for a home for Thorin with no children under the age of 10. A fenced yard is a must for this boy. While he hasn’t lived with a cat in the past, he has been exposed to several during foster and has expressed interest but no aggression. It’s likely that he would do fine with a cat that was dog savvy and either willing to play, or smart enough to get out of reach. The right canine companion would be fine too – he’s done really well with the female corgi in foster and the male in his first home. A small to medium dog with a laid back personality would be best.

Thorin will be available in the states of NC, SC, and GA only. His adoption fee is $150.
