Teddy is a very special boy with a sad story to tell. His young life was turned upside down when his owners dumped him at a NYC shelter because they no longer wanted to care for him due to a controllable seizure condition. Teddy was given the wrong medication and suffered a seizure every couple of weeks. Once NJSRN vetted Teddy and changed his meds, he has been seizure free!

Teddy, aka Teddy Bear or Theodore, was initially very withdrawn and seemed confused. We soon realized he did not understand English. Also, he did not respond to touch, or interact with his foster family or other dogs. Teddy stood in front of his foster providers and barked incessantly because he didn’t know how to communicate with them and vice versa. Slowly, Teddy's inner Schnauzer came out - he now loves attention and petting, and joyfully scurries around the yard with his seven foster siblings. He hears his new name and immediately runs to greet you!

Despite making huge strides, sweet Teddy still has a few issues that his new owner will have to understand. He will do best with an experienced adopter in a home where his people are around during the day, and other dogs who would provide comfort and reassurance when they are not. His abandonment issues have lessened but he may regress once he’s uprooted from the foster home he’s become very used to over the past several months.

Teddy is a rough and tumble sort of dog. At barely four years old, he has tons of energy so lots of exercise and stimulation will benefit him greatly.

Please consider opening your home and heart to Teddy Bear. He is a fabulous dog and will become a very loyal companion to the lucky person who adopts him. His current foster providers will be sad to see him go but realize he deserves more attention than they are able to give him.

Prior to placement, all dogs are spayed/neutered, brought up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, dewormed, and microchipped. Dogs also receive a dental cleaning, if needed, and are bathed/groomed before adoption.
