DARBY Australian Kelpie & Terrier Mix Lincoln, NE

Are you looking for the love of your life? Well look no further! Meet Darby, the red-furred, Irish-named man of the hour. Darby is a fun-loving man that just wants to dote on you with snuggles, kisses andeven gives long-embracing hugs that will melt your heart. Darby loves to go on long moonlit walks, but he's a gentleman who won't pull your arm off or chase all the other critters. He loves a good game of fetch and even knows "drop it." Darby loves to run in the fenced yard and play tug of war with his 6 pound foster brother. Darby is kennel and house trained so this is one guy you won't have to clean up after. He's happy sleeping on a soft bed at the foot of yours or with you keeping you extra warm and toasty. Darby has learned to sit, and is getting better at sitting and giving you a paw so you know he wants to be petted; he's also learning stay, down, shake and roll-over. Darby loves to sit on the back of the chair and watch the neighborhood, he does great with children and has been living with an 8 year old little boy who reads to him at night. Darby will need a fenced-in yard so he can play safely to his heart's content. Darby is a miracle survivor and has a sad tale to tell. He was seized in an animal cruelty case and taken to a rural outdoor shelter that didn't even have electricity or running water, along with several of his housemates, and held while the court case was pending. They were eventually turned over as property of the county. One by one, his only friends & mates left for rescue groups, but Darby continued to be passed over through absolutely no fault of his own. A staggering 2 years passed, and finally Dolly's Legacy came to his rescue. We are so honored to be a part of his journey in leaving that old life behind. He has cherished every moment of his freedom and is one of those dogs who is truly grateful to be rescued.

Darby is primarily an Australian Kelpie, possibly mixed with Terrier, weighs 55 lbs (solid but not tall or big) and was born approximately 1-22-16. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed, tested negative for heartworm disease & started on preventative. Adoption fee is $250 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs. We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to continue to save the lives of orphaned & abandoned pets; 100% goes towards their care.

The FIRST step is to have you complete our online adoption application. All adoption appointments are scheduled after your application has been approved. We are a foster-home based rescue group and do not have a facility. We are 100% volunteer staff. All communication is done via email AFTER your application has been submitted. PLEASE be sure to answer all questions completely or it will delay processing, be sure to include vet phone#. Since all of our pets are in foster homes and not a facility, we hold adoption appointments once a week on either a Saturday or Sunday, during scheduled time period. We need ALL family members or those living within your home, to be present for an appointment. Preference is given to those with a verifiable veterinary reference and home ownership, although generally not required. Home ownership is verified through court records.
