Meet Cinnamon

Cinnamon came to us as a foster after Albert’s Angel Fund and its legion of supporters funded FHO surgery on both of her hips. She was hurting and scared but I think she was mostly just humiliated at having a shaved butt. We rehabbed her, loved her, and during our walks had deep conversations about all the goings on in the world and we now know she is pro-recycle. She was healing and was learning commands quickly. We were getting ready to premier her to the world for adoption. However we noticed she had a limp concerning her right front leg, and it wasn’t getting better. We took her in to the vet and sure enough a poky bone spur. Now Cinny is missing some middle toes on her right front paw, think “ROCK STAR”. And, after some investigating, prior to her coming to us we found out she had been caught in a coyote trap and the trap won. We took her in for surgery #3 and within a week of the cone-of-shame was off, and she was using it just fine. We absolutely love her but now it’s time for her to live her life at a happiness and love level of 100. She feeling amazing and is looking fabulous, well better since the butt hair grew back.
Cinnamon is affectionately called many names. Cinny, Cin and my favorite, we call it her rapper name Cinna-money. Oddly enough Cinna-money is the one that gets her attention the most. I think she digs it, gives her street cred. She is smart, teaching her sit was like 4 maybe 5 minutes tops. We also have her counting. Seriously “1” gets 1 bark, a “2” gets two barks and “3”, “4” and….. Well we still aren’t quite to “5” yet. Even though she had double hip surgery she wants to be on the go. She is a lean, active dog and needs a fenced yard. She absolutely loves to lay and warm her wiggle butt in the sun and she also has quite the explorer streak in her. She gets super excited for her leash walks, she looks forward to it daily. Let’s talk riding in the car vs getting groceries vs potential person napper approaching car. Cinny is the best road dog ever. She makes sure all are secure and heading safely down the road and then her head hits the blanket and she’s out like a light. When Cinny is in the back of the car and we are loading groceries, she just moves out of the way, lays down and watches. Never has she slaughtered the lunch meat or tortillas, unlike our ungrateful Chihuahua who will eat through 2 inches of cardboard to get to the kitty litter. She also pretty much ignores anything near the car that other dogs may perceive as a threat. She’s real laid back. Cinny currently resides in our boarding kennels, and with all those doggy attitudes, she could care less. She knows there is separation, but out on the street if a strange dog comes in hot for a smell she will pull the Alpha card. We think she immediately goes on the defense from being in constant pain for so long. And, now that the pain is gone it’s just a learned reflex. She does dig the gentle, friendliness of cats. Cats are just plain fascinating to her and she loves to smell and hang out with them.
If Cinny could have it, her way. She’d be the only fur baby, wedged in the back of the SUV with your gym bag you haven’t used in 6 months and 8 bags of groceries, quietly judging your conversation, and wondering if you’ll ever teach her “5”.
