Meet Georgie

Georgie is a great looking ten month old puppy weighing about 18 pounds. He's a Poodle mix and has one of the most unusual colored coats I've ever seen. The distinct pattern of his coat makes him what is technically referred to as a phantom poodle. They aren't that common. Even more uncommon is all the different colors and shades of colors in his uniquely patterned coat. It's just gorgeous. His eyebrow area is a light cream color which gives his face more personality. Georgie was surrendered to us by his owners who can no longer care for him and are entrusting us with finding him a good home. As a volunteer I just happened to be present soon after he arrived and got to spend some time getting to know him. Following are some observations I made.

I am female and found Georgie to be quite cautious of me for about ten seconds. I approached him slowly, spoke to him sweetly, let him sniff the top of my hand and he quickly allowed me to pet his head. I was then able to put a leash on him to take him out to a play yard. He was a pleasure to walk on the leash. Once in the play yard, he was curious to explore his surroundings. He was independent at first and then later, after he'd had an opportunity to observe me, he was willing to engage. He came to me with a wagging tail and literally looked like he had a big smile on his face. I can't express enough how much he loves to be petted and scratched and when you pet him you will immediately notice how very, very soft his coat is. After Georgie and I had spent some time getting to know each other, I moved from sitting in a chair to sitting on a quilt on the ground. He was interested in me enough to come over and stand with his front paws on my lap. I petted him and he soon relaxed and laid down next to me for a while and took in the sights. Then he spotted a soft braided fabric rope toy. He loved it and would talk to it and then bring it to me. He seemed to want to play tug of war but he wasn't interested in fetching it if I threw it. I ran around the play yard a little to see if he wanted to run and play. He definitely wanted to play but I was still basically a stranger. I think if strangers make big/fast moves around him he needs time to determine what he feels your intentions are. Once he determines you mean him no harm, he seeks you out and comes right up to you. He began to seek attention and affection and gave it in return. I will give Georgie a bit more time to get used to his new surroundings and then will update this with any changes I observe.

UPDATE: We do not know what Georgie is mixed with. He doesn't seem to shed much. He has reached his full size.
He is neutered, rabies, HW Negitive, DHAPp, Bordetella, fecal tested, wormed, microchipped and groomed. He is up to date on HW & Flea
Preventitive.
He is energetic, hates crates, likes to run, jump and play. He needs to learn simple fun tricks for treats to stimulate his intelligence and satisfy his bordom. He would love to chase a kitty.
He would benefit from basic obedience training to show him leadership and discipline. I suspect he had a groom shop before we acquired him that didn't have the time to be patient and might have been a bit rough with the wire brush, as he can be challenging to groom. He wriggles around and mouthes on the brush, alot. This complication can and will improve with reasonably pleasurable grooming experiences and time. He would love to play with children although he resents restraint and can be mouthy. He would overwhelm young or small children as I have witnessed him in his exuberant play (after a day of confinement) run and bounce his front feet off of an adults chest that was sitting on a blanket in the grass.
He is not a mean dog just young and playful.
With companionship, minimal confinement, mental stimulation, positive reinforcement, the structure of basic obedience along with the ability to run exercise and play he will be a fantastic pet. He will not be suitable for an elderly or retired person that sits around watching television
He would also excel at the sport of agility.
