Meet Marco

This sweet boy is Marco (or Max now). He was rescued from the Florida panhandle. He was at a shelter when hurricane Michael hit. He was pulled by Sophie’s Circle with five other dogs after the storm. He is estimated to be around six years old. He is neutered and has all of his shots. He is also heart worm positive but is currently being treated. He has had two treatments as well as an antibiotic and steroid treatment which is completed. He will need a once a month heart worm pill for at least a year, but he should always be on it.

Max is currently 60.4 lbs. he needs to gain between 7-10 more pounds and he needs to gain some muscle. He came to the rescue emaciated and pitiful. He was not well taken care of based on his weight and some of his sores and scars. His heart is forgiving and his appetite has returned.

Marco (Max) is currently in a foster home that has five other dogs that include a 5lb chihuahua, two Boston Terriers, an English Bull terrier and a bigger mix and they all get along. Max is an attention hog and would probably love it if he were the only dog or had just one other canine friend and not five. He hasn’t been tested with cats. He hasn’t bothered the feral colony at his foster home but does want to chase. This includes birds, squirrels, and cats that run. He just loves to chase. He does not like horses at this point. Maybe with proper introduction and a trainer he could get there.

Max LOVES to be with people. He has some separation anxiety which is normal with shelter dogs, especially with what he went through with the storm. He does stay in a kennel when he has to be left alone. He protests loudly but then settles down. He would be best in a home with someone there more often than not. He is starting to play (just a little bit) and likes his blanket in particular. He sort of chews it and puts his head under it. He doesn’t have endless energy like a puppy but will do whatever you want to do for as long as you want to do it. He just wants to be part of the action. He also loves to sleep. He loves big comfy dog beds, cool tile floors, and laps located anywhere. He thinks he is a small lap dog and loves to sit on the couch with you. He will get down if you tell him no.

He is great in public. He has gone to quite a few local restaurants that are dog friendly. He just lays down by the table. People can pet him without any issues. His tail is always wagging and can occasionally knock things off of a table. He probably would be best with older kids since he is big and doesn’t pay attention to what he is doing. He is very loving but not a big licker. He will give kisses but you have to ask for them.

He loves the water and is great on a boat. As long as he is with the humans, he is having a good time. He is great in a car as well. He hops right in and sits down in the back seat. He walks good on a leash but is still learning not to cross in front. He has learned sit and down and is very smart. So far, he hasn’t even attempted to chew up anything in the house. He is a really good boy. He is house trained and uses a doggie door to go outside. He will need a fenced yard since he likes to go outside and might find a squirrel to chase. He wants to be inside and not locked outside. He is scared of being alone. The TV helps calm him when he has to be crated for short periods of time.

Please consider him for your family. He would be forever grateful and loyal.
