Dexter Labrador Retriever Normal, IL

This handsome boy is Dexter! He is an 8 year old, 79 pound Yellow Labrador Retriever. Dexter is smart and highly treat motivated - he knows "sit" and "shake." He is a happy and friendly guy, but he is also known for his stubborn streak - he is a big, strong boy...in both size and will! Dexter will do best in a home that is active and gives him plenty of exercise. He loves to run and play in the yard!

Dexter really loves his toys and his food, but with some one-on-one training he has learned "wait," "take it," and "drop it." He can be over eager for dinner so a firm and consistent feeding habit will help him keep up with the training and manners he is learning. He gets along well with other dogs he’s met, but needs to be the only dog in the home because he can be possessive. We aren't sure how he would do with cats. Dexter is big and active - he loves to greet you by jumping up for a hug.

Because our sweet boy can be possessive and is so strong, we request a home with no children under the age of 18 years old. Potential adopters must have experience handling big dogs, especially strong-willed ones. Dexter will need a firm, patient, and loving home with an experienced owner who can help him excel as the friendly, sweet guy he can be! He will make the right person a wonderful companion!!

His minimum adoption donation is $125 plus a $12 fee for rabies registration with McLean County Animal Control.

He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
