Meet Nola

Meet Nola. Nola is a 3 year old brindle girl that we pulled from the LSPCA in New Orleans.

Her foster writes: Nola is a timid girl and you need to go slow with her, she trusts women more so than men initially. But once you earn her trust she’s a typical love bug Velcro dane.

Because of her initial timidity, we'd prefer Nola go to a home without young children. She needs a calmer environment.

Nola is very curious but likes some space in new environments. Introductions to other dogs should be slow and supervised. She warms up to them fairly quickly when she is on neutral turf. She loves to play with our Danes and the Maltese. She will growl while she is playing with the dogs, but it's not threatening, and she is not aggressive towards them. However, she cares way more about her humans than she does about interacting and playing with the other dogs. She really she just wants to snuggle and lounge with her people.. she’s not an active girl at all.

Nola is house trained, potty trained, well mannered and great on a leash. She is surprisingly calm and collected for her age. She is not a puller, unless she wants to get back to her human. She's not destructive when left alone.

Upon intake Nola was suffering with extreme dermatitis due to allergies but she has come a long way we got her skin issues under control and we will feel she is now ready for a family to call her own. She will need to remain on a specific diet though.

She did well with our young grandchildren, but I think she would do better with older children who can respect her space. She plays with toys, but will shred every stuffed/squeaky toy in the blink of an eye. Her favorite thing, aside from her human, is her blanket that she loves to suckle. She thinks she is a lap dog, and will climb in her human's lap if given the opportunity.

We are working on her counter-surfing. She will try anything, including containers and wrappers. She is on a specific fish-based diet because of her allergies, and she is also given supplements to support her skin and general health.

She gets along with our cat, but our cat is "big dog savvy" and doesn't have any problems putting a curious Dane in its place! I think Nola would give chase if given the opportunity with a cat.

She isn't always sure of her boundaries, and her curiosity sometimes gets the best of her, so she needs an experienced Dane owner.

Nola's adoption fee is $300. She is spayed, fully vaccinated and microchipped. To apply to adopt Nola go to www.nwflgdr.com/adopt.
