Meet Andy

Andy dragged himself to his neighbors house for help, he was dehydrated, starving and matted so badly he didn’t have mobility in his legs. As it turned out, that was not the extent of his mobility issues. He has scoliosis of his spine, elbow dysplasia, he is missing a ball and socket joint in one of his hind legs, he has nerve damage and he is partially blind. Unfortunately there is no surgery that can help him - the doctors say that the only surgery that could help, an insertion of a new joint, will not be beneficial enough to his mobility to warrant the pain and risk of the surgery. Even with a new joint, should it work 100%, the nerve damage will be the biggest inhibitor to him being able to use his new joint. All that aside, his mobility has improved in his foster home in the months that he has been there. He is gaining muscle where he had none. He went from not being able to stand to now walking for a minute or two continuously; he went from falling over when he couldn’t walk anymore to being able to set himself down gently; he can even stand and shake the water off after a bath now without falling down. His weight has to be maintained at around 7 pounds - any more weight can inhibit his mobility. He is sweet, affectionate and sociable with other dogs - he LOVES puppies the most. His companions need to be gentle as he is still easily knocked down. He is absolutely crazy about his squeaky toys, if you squeak them fast enough for him he will howl along. He has done very well with house-training - he makes it outside 95% of the time, the other 5% is if the door is closed or if it’s raining outside. He’s a special dog who is going to require a special forever home.

If this listing is still posted, we are still accepting applications for him/her. We do not do out-of-state adoptions on highly adoptable dogs; we would only consider out-of-state adoptions for dogs that prove hard-to-place locally. We cannot hold dogs, please submit your application when you are ready to adopt.

If you are interested in meeting any Poochmatch dog at our weekly adoption event on Saturdays at the Petsmart in Yorba Linda, CA (5521 Mirage St.) between 1-5 PM, please fill out an application from our website, poochmatch.com, and return it via email to poochmatch@hotmail.com no later than 11 AM on Fridays. Upon receipt AND approval, the dog you are interested in meeting will be made available to meet on a Saturday. Due to the high volume of dogs and puppies in our foster homes, it is impossible to bring them all every Saturday. The only way to ensure that the dog that you are interested in will be at the adoption event is to FILL OUT AN APPLICATION AND BE APPROVED. Otherwise, we cannot guarantee that the dog you are interested in will be at our adoption event. If you cannot make the time frame of our events, appointments can be made at another time and location solely at the discretion of the foster parent. Please understand that private appointments will be coordinated to meet the convenience of the foster parent/transporter. We cannot hold dogs, please submit your application when you are ready to adopt.

All adoption fees cover the mandatory and non-negotiable spay/neuter, rabies, microchip, microchip registration, full sets of core vaccinations (rabies and 1 set of distemper/parvo for adults, 4 for puppies) and deworming. Adoption fees vary based on age, breed, size and the costs incurred on the dog's behalf by us i.e. medical, behavioral training, etc. and they range from $225-$495.
