Mystery got his name because he was literally roaming the streets of WV for months- everyone kept seeing him but did not know where he had come from. He was completely matted and filthy and it took a huge group effort to catch him.

As you can see from his most recent pics, he looks much better now!! He did well at our adoption center with people he knew and would come up and hang out near them (though isn’t wasn't at the point of wanting pets).
Recently, Mystery moved into a foster home, and we are learning even more about him. He is good with other dogs and does not have accidents in his crate. Mystery needs a very specific home- one with adults only and a fenced in yard (he is still wary of being touched and is not sure on leash). He really needs his own personal bubble, and someone willing to feed him lots of treats, sweet talk him, and let him come around on his own terms. Working with a dog like Mystery is a very very rewarding endeavor. Please reach out if you wish to open your heart and home to him!

Update from Mystery's foster (1/5/19): Mystery and I are getting along fabulously. He is a super dog and I really enjoy him. We keep his leash on at all times. This is the most comfortable for him so that if we need to lead him somewhere or take a walk, we don't need to touch him. He has gone on two walks with the other dogs and seems to really enjoy it. He is wearing the martingale collar (I know, you aren't supposed to keep them on except for walks) and it appears to be working. We choose not to put him through the ordeal of getting a harness on for each walk - he really wigs out. I am hoping eventually that he will allow us to do so. While we walk - my husband comes with - I keep a close eye on him. If he starts to pull and strain on the leash, I make sure I am behind him so that he can't do his Houdini trick and wriggle out of the collar. However, the current collar seems to be sufficiently tightened.

As for bathing, he barely tolerates me touching him, but once we get into it, he does settle down and I think he likes the warm water. Fortunately, he is a nice smelling guy by nature so I have only bathed when he has gotten poop on him or on his leash from a yard encounter.

As to his overall temperament, he is very playful. With the other dogs, he is just happy to frolic and play. With people, he just wants to be near you. Don't touch him, but hang out with him. He is happiest laying nearby in the TV room or when I'm working on the computer. He is a very chill dog for the most part, not hyper except when he gets worked up by playing with our other foster.

He is a great sleeper and loves his crate. Has shown no food aggression except when the other foster has tried to take his treat - then he barks in warning. As for barking, he hardly barks except when he is playing. Even when the other dogs go crazy at the doorbell, he is quiet.

I am becoming very fond of him and really want him to find the right person to bond with. He will be a perfect dog for someone who can accept him as he is and not expect a cuddle pup. Maybe one day he will find affection with humans but, for now, that won't be the case.
