Precious 10 month old (?), 22 pound puppy Gretchen is just as cute as she can be but she will be looking for just the right family as she starts her life as a beloved pet.

She was found by a kind person as a stray with another look alike puppy. Maybe these were two from a litter that no one purchased so they were dumped when they got older. Who knows what her story is! Since she was a stray, her breed mix is a total guess, of course.

Gretchen is a very inexperienced, shy, sweet and submissive girl. She came to us with long puppy toenails that were nor worn down at all. Whatever happened to her in her prior life, it seems that she was not allowed to play outside or to go on any walks. Her toenails were as fresh as they would be on a dog that was caged or kept inside its whole life.

We can tell that she has a darling personality hidden inside her shyness and, even though she is new to us, we can see a bright sparkle just waiting to shine. She definitely glows with intelligence and is so curious about everything.

She is very interested in what her fellow doggie friends are doing and uses their actions to decide on her own. If they are being friendly and excited to see people, she will come out of hiding and show a definite interest in joining in the fun but then may quickly retreat back to her hiding place.

Despite her total lack of experience with being a regular dog, she seems to be completely sweet and totally non aggressive, just uncertain and quickly hiding when she gets too nervous.

We have seen the cutest excited, happy prancing and gotten quick little puppy kisses on our hands and face already.

This little girl has wonderful potential and just needs some confidence and experience. We can tell she is going to be a happy, loving sweetheart very quickly!

So, if you are looking for a ready to roll cutie, please continue to surf petfinder for another pet. This is not the one for you.

If you are an experienced and patient person who has worked with rescue dogs before and you understand what a shy dog goes through and how to train it, please apply.

We will most likely require Gretchen’s new owner to have a current sweet and friendly young or middle aged dog for Gretchen to learn from and play with. She really needs that positive example and guidance. We think she will come round really quickly in the right home with the right doggie friend.

A fenced yard will probably be needed for potty breaks until she learns all about leash walking.

The person who found Gretchen and took her in for a week said she did try to play with both their dog and their cat so she would love a playful doggie friend but not one that will overwhelm her.

Adoption donation $200.
