Meet Josie
Josie is a female, solid black, Scottish Terrier or Scottish Terrier maybe Cairn mix. She is small and her legs are a tad longer than a standard scottie. We still feel she is probably a scottie, just not from a professional scottie breeder. Still, adorable. She was picked up as a stray, actually trapped, and was very, very fearful. We have no idea what she had been through. Thankfully a scottie loving volunteer was able to get her and worked with a few weeks on socializing her better with her own dogs. She was then transferred to her foster home. She’s done very well, but it's all still very new, and we will give her all the time she needs. She would be best in a quiet home with someone experienced with the breed or other terriers. Would probably do best with other dogs in the home to learn from and feel secure with.
She is healthy, but did test positive for lyme during our initial vet visit, so she's finished treatment with antibiotics for that. Her bloodwork was good and she's been vaccinated. She’ll be ready for adoption once she's spayed (the last Friday in Nov) and we best determine her needs and find someone who would be the best fit for her. Josie obviously didn't have the best start in her young life and needs to gain self confidence and trust. She is very fearful of new people and situations, although loving once she gets comfortable. She will snap if scared, but not those she trusts, so an adopter will need to accept that and be willing and able to work with it. She'll need someone with patience and love to continue on her journey!! She is a flight risk so will need someone with a very secure environment.
Any inquiries, please contact Erica Cerny at ecerny@optonline.net or 973-361-6790. She is currently being fostered in Saugerties, NY.
