Meet Cutie

Cutie is a 4 year old white, male, poodle/bichon mix weighing 12 1/2 pounds. He’s almost too pretty to be a male. A good citizen saw him wandering stray near a school and observed him narrowly miss being hit by a car. Unable to locate an owner, he surrendered Cutie to Poodle Rescue so we could find him a safe, forever home. As a volunteer, I spent time with Cutie recently and would love to tell you what I learned about him during our interaction.

He’s trusting, friendly, and an all around happy boy. He came to me easily from his kennel and was a pleasure to carry. It was apparent when I walked him that he is very familiar with a leash. I found Cutie to be happy, confident, alert and curious. When he’s first taken out of his kennel he likes to be given a few minutes to explore. I put a quilt on the ground in one of our play yards so I could interact with him at ground level. He came over when I kissed to him. He loves to be petted and scratched. He was darling in his attention seeking. He would rub his head on my leg and then root around with his nose in the quilt. Next thing I knew he had flopped over on his back to let me know he wanted a belly rub. He was quiet and affectionate and licked my hand very softly while I was rubbing him. He’s adorable with toys, especially squeaky ones. I’d squeak a toy and throw it a short distance. He’d look at it, think about it for a half second and then pounce on it. The best part was that he’d bring the toy right back to me, stand still and immediately drop it and smile at me as if to ask me if I’d throw it again. He was very polite during our interaction with toys. I remembered that I had brought a new toy with me. It was a small hard plastic football with the squeaker in it. He didn’t know it squeaked but he liked the looks of it. Because of its size and shape he couldn’t quite get his mouth around it but he wasn’t about to give up. It was interesting to watch him persevere and finally succeed and it certainly kept him entertained. Cutie has a playful side and a lap dog side. He seeks attention and affection and gives it in return. The Poodle Rescue of Houston employee who regularly feeds and handles the dogs mentioned to me that Cutie is dominant with other dogs but he also mentioned that Cutie got along with a dominant female dog who is currently at our facility. So, if you already have a dog, it would be good to bring them with you if you come out to meet Cutie. I have not had an opportunity yet to observe Cutie with children but suspect he would do fine with children that are 6 to 8 years of age or older. He should make a great pet and family member. He’s one of those dogs who will always meet you with a wagging tail and make your day a little bit brighter.
