Roxie the Doxie Update (9/28/18):

Let’s make one thing perfectly clear about me-I am a Queen. I love my people and once the other dogs learn I am the Queen I love them to. I like a soft spot to nap and feel safe in my crate at night. I require a fenced in yard so I can hunt and run after squirrels & rabbits. Daily walks keep me in shape and tire me out. Did I say I like naps? I like to cuddle with my people and sometimes with my foster Bro Wally. I like all the people I have met at my foster home and will greet them with a kiss. I really could use a home soon that will love & care for me forever. Oh yes, I didn’t mention this but I only have 1 eye but believe me I see everything.
Yours Truly,
Roxie The Doxie

BIO (7/24/2018): Hi! My name is Roxie and I was dumped at a shelter in Western KY when my family decided to move to another state and the hotels would only let mom and dad have 3 dogs in the room. You see, they had 5 of us so guess what, me and another Dachshund named Hershey had to go. So, off to the shelter we went where we didn’t stand a chance of getting adopted. However, the shelter director knew this lovely lady that belonged to this rescue. She called her and she came and took us away to a better place.

I can’t remember when it happened but I had an eye injury that was never cared for by my old owners. When I came into rescue they tried to get it treated but decided it had to be taken out. I’m ok with it ‘cause I couldn’t see out of it anyway. So now two weeks after surgery, here I am. They have not taken any pix of me yet after my eye has healed but they promised me they would soon.

I love to be in your lap that is my favorite thing to do and I’m house broken to a doggie door but will need a strict schedule if you don’t have one and I prefer if you’d go out with me. Other than my eye I’m a healthy 10-year-old and very pretty if I do say so myself.

I would love, love, love a home with a fenced yard, another dog to cuddle with (or shoot I’m fine by myself too), and a human who is home with me all day long to keep me company. That would be fantastic! Can you fill my wish list? Gosh, I hope so. While it’s great here in foster care I really want a home of my own.

They said I was good with cats and I probably am unless they run then the game is on. Help me please find my last forever home.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
