Meet Tawny!

Tawny was rescued in early 2018 from a Central Calif shelter. She was very shut down and doing poorly in that environment. She has come a long way since then, but will still need a special home that will help her with her insecurities. Here is what her fosterhome has to say about this sweet girl:

Tawny came to us from the Tulare shelter, although we don’t know her past we suspect she’s led a difficult life of living in a crate and never really experiencing human love – she was scared and depressed. That is, until now! She has lived with foster parents for the past couple of months and has made wonderful strides. She is learning people can be trusted and there are good things about life. She is experiencing being a happy dog for maybe the first time in her life!
Once afraid of being outside of her crate, being in the backyard or even receiving attention from people, she has learned to enjoy all these things. She has found sleeping in a dog bed, a nice rug and close by to her fosters is a pretty good thing! As she has become more comfortable, Tawny has learned to explore the backyard on her own, seems to enjoy it and really likes it if her foster parents or doggies enjoy it with her! She’s made huge strides in receiving human affection and where she once preferred to be isolated, she now enjoys being amongst people and animals in the home! Although she is making progress daily, Tawny is still on the shy side and doesn’t care much for loud people or sounds. We believe it may take her a bit to be comfortable with people she doesn’t know until she feels she can trust them.
Due to her previous life, she’s still not quite comfortable with exploring the front yard as it’s just a little too busy with the hustle and bustle of cars and people. However, with some patience and understanding, she should become more comfortable with in unfamiliar surroundings and soon be able to go on nice walks! When she came to us, all of Tawny’s front teeth were so badly ground down that they had to be removed. However, she still has her molars and is able to chew normally. Missing a few teeth doesn’t stop this girl from enjoying snacks (hot dogs and cheese are her favorites) or good meals!
We believe in the right environment Tawny will continue to flourish as she has been experiencing so many new things and really has come a long way in a short amount of time. She’s almost ready for her forever home! Tawny will likely do best in a quiet and calm home that will allow her to continue to slowly come out of her shell! She would be most happy being an indoor dog, with access to a nice backyard to enjoy. She does very well with other animals, but prefers dogs be calmer and mellow, like her! At her foster, she has lived with their kitty and is not phased a cat is ever around! Tawny is a very calm, mild mannered dog and super sweet! She is very well behaved and getting more comfortable with a dog’s life every day!
Tawny is probably a Chow mix dog and has lush black fur. She’s super cute with one floppy, bent ear and one straight up ear! She’s cute like a cuddly teddy bear and about as cute!
