Meet Davis

Meet Davis.

Davis is a male great dane that NWFLGDR was able to catch by trap after he had been roaming the woods around an abandoned house in Pensacola. After about a week-long community effort of tracking his whereabouts, the rescue put out food in the same location for a few nights in a row and after the third night we were able to capture Davis in an extra large trap that we made specifically for Great Dane sized dogs.

We captured him just off of Davis Hwy... hence the name, Davis.

Although Davis evaded capture for more than a week, he is actually quite affectionate and friendly once he gets to know and trust you. However, it takes Davis a very long time to warm up to new people, particularly males, and he's not a fan of young kids. Kids make him extremely nervous. Once he trusts you, you’re golden. And then he can be protective of his people, and has the capacity to snap and bite if he thinks he or they are being challenged.

We believe he would make a great companion for a person or couple without kids. Because of his record, we do not feel comfortable sending him to a home with children. No exceptions.

He is completely submissive with other dogs and just ignores cats. He is currently living with a female great dane and gets along very well with her. And submits to her for toys and food even.

Davis has a lot of love to give and would make an excellent companion for a dane savvy person or couple in need of a loyal best friend, who will respect his nervous issues and not set him up to fail.

He would do best in a home with another dog to help him acclimate and bond with. Davis is lazy and can be trusted left out of crate while his humans are gone during the day, however, on the rare occasion that his dane sister Hannah has to go somewhere and he's left alone, he does not like it and chews on knobs or blinds. He needs a companion at home with him.

Davis is neutered, UTD on vaccines, chipped.
