Chester was a stray in Buchanan county, Iowa. He did not get claimed and his time was up. So Waverly Pet Rescue took him in. He is now up to date on shots, tested heartworm negative, and neutered.

Chester is about 1-1/2 years old as of May 22nd, 2018. He is a total sweetheart and very friendly. He does great with other dogs. He does not at all like being in a kennel or crate. So he needs a home that will not board him anywhere when they are gone. Have a family member willing to take him or a pet sitter come over or something. He will growl and be very upset if you kennel him.

Chester had a really bad yeast infection in both ears that was bleeding and had been untreated when he he first arrived. With medication, his ears are better now but should be watched in the future to make sure it does not come back.

Chester was totally fine with other dogs. He sniffs them and has loose body language. He is very respectful. He would be too much for an older mellow dog. Not aggressive in anyway just jumps and wants to play. He has a lot of energy.

He met a cat while he was on a leash and all he did was sniff it. He wasn’t overly interested, fixated, or overbearing to it. He has loose body language and did not show any prey drive toward the cat. However; we have no information on if he has lived with cats before we got him.

Chester still needs a lot of training. He is not for a first time pet owner. Our foster home is working with him. He will need an experienced owner that has time to continue his training. He is a sweet boy and craves attention-he just doesn’t know how to ask for it or show it so he jumps quite a bit. For this reason it would be best if a home with small kids be avoided for now. He is doing great with potty training and has only had one accident in the house. He has a lot of energy and needs to be in a fenced in yard for exercise. So a fenced in yard is REQUIRED.

Will someone please adopt Chester and give him a forever home? $150.00 adoption fee.

WE ARE A NO-KILL 501-C-3 NON-PROFIT RESCUE. All donations are tax deductible. We do not have a shelter. All pets live in foster homes. We only adopt to indoor homes. To see an animal, you must fill out an application first and then once approved, we can set up for you to meet the animal you are interested in. We do background checks on all applicants. If you have assault, domestic abuse, or drug charges please do not apply. If you have questions, please send an email to waverlypetrescue@mchsi.com

All animals see a vet for shots and normal exams. If they appear healthy and there are no obvious health concerns, then extensive testing is not done. This is normal procedure for pet rescues and shelters.
Waverly Pet Rescue puts a lot of money into medical care for each dog and cat we take in. $300 is the average cost for basic care. This does not include if the animal had an injury, required extra flea / ear mite treatments, or needed extra days at the vet office.
