Meet Bandit

1 year old male Purebred Pomeranian, about 7 pounds.

Bandit came to us from a hoarding home of 50+ dogs. He lived in a concrete box and had very little to no handling before he came to us. After 4 months, he was the last to offer to be friendly. He is making great progress but has a long way to go.

He would still be classified as under-socialized (feral) and a flight risk; however, he is allowing handling if you catch him up in a corner. After 6 months of work, he will occasionally jump on your leg and asked to be picked up as that has become a new safe spot for him. He spends most of his days hidden behind the couch or in the back of his pen because he's afraid to come out.

He is doing fine in his foster home around kids, dogs and cats. He would do best with another confident dog in the home to follow in the routine. He is just starting to walk on a leash following another dog. But he is still anxious and tries to get away. He is not ready to walk outside in the great big world.

He runs and darts around the yard looking for a way to get back inside to his safe spot behind the couch. You have to corner him to catch him in a big open space so he needs a solid fenced yard as he is a flight risk.

Bandit is sweet but his previous life has left him anxious and fearful. Gentling a feral dog is a long term (possibly years) process. It takes many planned baby steps to help them along and there are resouces out there to help. But mainly you must spend a significant amount of time with the dog to get there.

Any adopter interested in him must realize that he is a project, but very worth the work.
