Meet Gilbert - READ BIO
Gilbert is a special little dog looking for a special home. PLEASE READ HIS ENTIRE BIO. If, after reading his description, you feel that you would be a good fit for Gilbert, please submit an application!
The good:
Gilbert is an adorable 25 pound, year old Corgi Pomeranian mix. He is extremely potty trained. He will use a crate, but does not need to be crated because he is not destructive in the house. He likes to fetch and play with toys. His favorite activities are car rides and sunbathing in the yard (he would love a fence!). He likes snuggling up to his person and will happily keep your lap toasty. He walks great on a leash. Gilbert’s fur is lush and silky-soft. He doesn’t shed much.
The bad:
Gilbert needs a quiet, low-traffic, adult only home, preferably with a single owner. He bonds strongly to his person. He should not live with cats. He is dog social outside the house, but he has not yet lived with another dog.
The ugly:
His adorable appearance can be misleading. Gilbert will need consistent training to build his socialization skills and confidence. He will approach many people with a waggy tail and happy face, but he also feels uncomfortable with many people (mostly men). He thinks he’s a big dog and will guard his person and his house. He needs time to build trust with new people and will need time to build trust with his new adopter. He will need a patient person who is willing to respect his boundaries and understand that it won’t be snuggles at first sight! Gilbert would be best with an experienced dog owner that isn’t looking for a social butterfly, but rather a close companion for themselves. Until Gilbert’s anxiety about new folks resolves (which it may never), his adopter will need to understand that crating him when guests are over is necessary. Gilbert is quirky, but once you get to know him, he is a perfect best friend!
