Meet Skipper

This extremely handsome big puppy came to STAF from a rural county shelter, and we don’t know anything about his past. He was 9 months old at arrival, and 57 pounds, and still has some growing to do! He appears to be a Newfoundland mix. A big boy:).

Like most puppies, Skipper is energetic, wants attention, loves to play (especially with balls and other dogs!), and is sweet and boisterous. He is a strong boy and will benefit from positive training and lots of daily exercise, and would love to find an active family who loves big dogs! Skipper is a very big-lovable-lug.

Here is some great feedback on Skipper from a volunteer after taking him out fo the day:
“Skipper is delightful! He is sweet and exuberant. Skipper was much better on a leash than I expected, being new to us and still a young guy. He jogged well and loved hiking. We passed many people and dogs at the park. He was friendly with everyone. Skipper has a very cute way of introducing himself to other dogs. He plants his feet and leans in to the point where his hind legs are stretched out way behind him and he presents his face to the other dog with tail wagging. All the other dogs really liked him - he made fast friends with all of them big and small. We came across a giant standard poodle who was the size of a small horse and Skipper jumped like he had seen a ghost but then leaned in tail wagging. Skipper also is the type of dog that checks in with you, looking up with his big sweet eyes making sure you are still there and all is well. As I was jogging with him, I would tell him he was a good boy and he would hop with excitement. He has a really charming youthful sweetness about him. He also has his harness figured out already. He was getting a big drink of water upon return to his run and as I was taking his harness off, he politely lifted his paw without prompting so I could unharness him. Skipper is a fast learner and a really nice boy who wants to please. He is also very handsome and affectionate. When I would pause on our hike and bend down he would come right over and press up to me for some TLC. He is a charmer!”

Skipper will need: A home to provide him with the daily exercise that a big young dog needs. Skipper will most likely need a fenced yard.
Skipper would love: To go to learn the basics with positive based training.
Skipper’s estimated birth date is July 2017

Please see our homepage for visiting hours and adoption details.

All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots.

Visit our website www.staf.org to download our application.

We do not do same-day adoptions; we ask that you return for a follow-up visit before taking an animal home.

You must be 21 years or older to adopt a dog from STAF

We require a physical fence for homes with children under the age of 11. We also may require a physical fence for specific dogs on a case-by-case basis, depending on each dog's behavior and exercise needs.

Invisible fences - Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training--we cannot adopt to homes with invisible fences unless otherwise noted in a dog's online profile.

We do request vet and personal references.

At this time, we are only able to consider applicants within 75 miles of Cincinnati.

Can’t adopt but want to help? You can make a difference! Our shelter is run entirely on volunteer-power and generous donations from animal-lovers like you. 100% of your contribution goes directly to caring for our 500+ furry residents. Thank you for your support.
