Nico Great Dane & Bullmastiff Mix Brownwood, TX

UPDATE: 9/25/18 Nico has made much progress with his separation anxiety.
He will now enter his crate on his own throughout the day. He can be left in his crate for a few hours without panic. Nico still jumps the fence when left alone in the back yard but he just goes to the front door or where ever his foster is.

UPDATE: 8/6/18 Nico has made much progress on his separation anxiety issues. He still does not like to be left alone but his crate training has improved. Nico loves to go and is becoming well known at all the pet friendly businesses in town. He is a very social guy. Nico is very attentative to his handlers and could possibly be trained for mobility work. Nico is very loving and affectionate. Nico walks well on a leash is potty trained and knows sit. He is currently working on other basic obedience commands.

Nico arrived with us on Friday 4/13/18. Nico had been left with what we believe was his father to survive on their own. We don't think prior to being with us he was ever indoors before. Nico had a rattlesnake bite on his face which we rushed him to the vet and he has survived. Nico has severe separation anxiety right now and we are currently working on this with him. Nico can clear a fence and will go through a window to be with his rescuer. Nico's injury and these mentioned issues are the reasons he is currently on hold. Nico is dog and kid friendly.

UPDATE 7/9/18: Nico is doing a lot better with his separation anxiety but still needs to be in a heavey duty crate if left home alone. Nico just wants to be with his people. He's very social and loves to go and has started playing and bouncing around (like a typical great dane) with the other dogs at the rescue!

UPDATE: 6/18/18 Nico has put in a lot of work in his short time with us and his separation anxiety has lessened a great deal! Nico is dog friendly, kid friendly and loves people! Nico loves to go to town with his fosters and meet new people! Nico's favorite outing place is Home Depot!

Nico is learning not to jump a fence but does have excellent recall on the rare occasions that he does or he goes to the front door. A privacy fence or 6 ft fence would be ideal for Nico. Nico has a great temperament for therapy dog work.
