Meet Easy going Gus

Greetings! My name is Gussie, or Gus if you like, and I’m an 8 year-old gentle Border Collie and Alaskan Malamute mix. Can you get a better Colorado combination than that? I have a few "special" needs....but it is only because I am a super special guy. Please read through the note from my foster mom at the end of this bio to make sure you understand what home would be best for me!

I traded in the porch I was chained to for 7 hard years for the beautiful green grass of the Boulder Foothills! I sure do have a lot of lost time to make up for!

You know how they say when really bad things happen, sometimes good things can come out of it? Well, after that February ice storm in Kansas, you know the one where I was literally frozen to that said porch, an animal control person finally came and rescued me! I lost part of my tail, but not my sweetness. Ya know, I don’t hold any grudges….at all. I am just a sweet, mellow, easy going dude who has a LOT of life-catching up to do!

Turns out, I REALLY love people, and dogs, and WALKS! I didn’t even know about those!!!! But after doing so many years of hard time outside, my back legs are just a bit weak, so a stair free (or few stairs) would be my favorite. And I would LOVE to be with my new peoples - if you work from home, are already settled in life, or are retired, like me, that would be great! My ideal new job would be as your constant companion, human walker (I guess humans like walks too!) and chief couch crasher (I’m just learning about soft beds). I do get along with all doggies and most kitties too. Car rides are a bit scary yet. If my new people could gently show me love and all the good stuff older fellas should receive, I will repay you in love, sweet kisses and smiles!

And here's my favorite quote: "It doesn’t matter where you’re going, it’s who you have beside you that matters."

Here is a note from my amazing foster mom: "Because of Gus’ past neglect and age he has a few special needs: Gus’ ideal home is with someone who works from home or is home a lot (he will be your shadow!), has another dog for companionship and to show Gus the ropes and be a calming presence, has few or no stairs to the backyard (and ideally no stairs to bedrooms so he can sleep with his family) because he does have some arthritis and an old foot injury that makes it difficult to do a lot of stairs. He does LOVE and need 2 walks a day, he can actually walk pretty fast at times so he will need someone that can keep up with him! Gus doesn’t like car rides much, so taking him on daily car rides or on multiple trips probably wouldn’t be ideal. He needs to be lifted in and out of the car. He is 54#. He is nervous of thunderstorms so he will need someone that will be there for him to calm him. While he is safe with cats, he will eat the cat food. He feels like he needs to follow/monitor cats. He has really been through a lot of neglect in his past life so we are hoping to find him a home that will really cater to his needs and he will repay you with tons of love and companionship in return!"
