Health
Vaccinations up to date, spayed / neutered, special needs. This sweet handsome boy has never had a family. He spent the first year of his life in a shelter in Texas, after having been taken in as a stray puppy. Here at AMHS he has blossomed and really come out of his shell with staff and volunteers, but he is still afraid of many new things and startles easily. And when he is afraid, he panics and tries to bolt - so for that reason he poses a danger to himself if he is not in a fenced area or on leash. Despite his rough beginnings, Crosby loves people and will come in close for a snuggle after just a few meetings, and loves ALL other dogs with an enthusiasm that is a joy to behold. He would do best in a home with another young dog who loves to play, and children over the age of 10. His adoptive home must have a fenced-in yard, another dog and the patience and dedication to help Crosby learn that the world is a safe place. AMHS is so committed to his transition into the forever home he deserves that we are sponsoring three in-home behavior support sessions and transitional medications, after adoption. If you think you are Crosby's special someone, he will reward you with love and loyal affection. He has a big heart.

Meet Crosby

Crosby is a 1 1/2 year old Akita/Collie mix. He is a sturdy dog with a dense Sable coat. Crosby loves other dogs and plays rough and tumble. He has been introduced to cats in their kennels, and he seems to be afraid of them, not wanting to get close or even sniff at them. This tells us he would most likely live peacefully with a cat. Crosby is gentle with children, even cautiously drawn to them. Because of his exuberant play, he would be better with older children.
Crosby will need a special person. (Please read Crosby Special Needs.) He was un-socialized as a puppy and so has grown to be a tender soul, afraid of new surroundings, people and activity. There is not a mean bone in his body. Crosby needs and seeks security in any form he can find it, his kennel, his yard, your lap. Crosby gains courage from other dogs and will greatly benefit by living with a companion dog.
Applications for Crosby will be taken for consideration. His behavior requires that we find the best placement for him - to thrive.
