Meet Chico
Chico is a little 12-13 lb, 6 year old toy American Eskimo who was dumped at BARC, along with his friend, Mickey by his former owner(s). He is now neutered, but sadly heartworm-positive (being treated via slow-kill).
We don't think the boys had ever been socialized much or seen the inside of a house given their fearful, nervous reactions to things like coffee grinders or vacuum cleaners. Chico is crate-trained, walks reasonably well on a leash, and but can be a little nervous, spooky and easily scared when new people, loud noises, or other dogs approach abruptly. He can also be a door-darter and tends to run/bolt when frightened. He really wants to be a protected lap-dog and needs/wants attention desperately. He likes other dogs, and takes a lot of comfort from them, so a multi-dog household might be good for him. He needs a patient, reassuring, and protective mom/day who is willing to work with him and show him the ropes - we predict he will make a very loving and cheerful addition to someone's family!
The adoption donation is $300, and includes a general vet exam, neuter surgery, heartworm testing and/or treatment (as necessary), shots, microchip, and worming. Experienced dog ownership and credible vet references are required in order to adopt from HER.
