Meet Hennessy

***FOSTERED IN BATON ROUGE, LA***

Hennessy is an 11-to-12 year old great dane, weighing in about 120 lbs, who was surrendered to the rescue through no fault of her own. Her elderly owner's husband had recently passed away and the wife was also very sick and needing in-home care.

It was apparent that neither human had been able to properly care for Hennessy for a long time, though it wasn't for lack of love. Hennessy came to us with painfully long nails which were hurting her to walk on, and age-related arthritis and joint pain. She also has some minor skin issues (dermatitis). Her biggest medical issue is she has a large lick granuloma covering her front right wrist (caused by incessant licking of her wrist, likely from pain.) We've had her on a longterm round of antibiotics for her skin to clear her skin infection and let her leg wound heal, but it's caused by her incessant licking so whoever adopts her needs to understand that if she's allowed to lick her leg, the open wound will just return. She needs to be coned when not supervised so she leaves her leg alone.

Hennessy is also on pain meds for age-related arthritis and joint pain, typical for a 12 year old dane. She's already feeling much better.

Now for the good news:
Hennessy is currently living with a senior male lab, but she's previously lived in homes with cats and kids too and she's so docile with all. She is a perfect lady with all she meets. She's very well-mannered and gentle-natured soul who would never intentionally hurt a fly.

Hennessy can be trusted to be left alone without issue. She's fully potty trained, house trained. She's great on a leash, she's not a puller. She'd be great with a family with young children. She would really love a family of her own to snuggle up on the couch with.

She is so good. She would be an excellent dane for a first-time dane owner with kids. She's rock solid. She just really would love a home of her own to rest and lie low in for the remainder of her days. She would likely do best in a low key home without a lot of other playful pups, she's not that active anymore. She just enjoys the creature comforts of orthopedic dog beds and couches...

Hennessy's adoption fee is $300. To apply to adopt Hennessy, go to www.nwflgdr.com/adopt.
