We have always wanted our very own manatee. And also our very own walrus. Then we found the perfect combination of both creatures, with a bit of hippo thrown in, sitting in a high kill shelter. Enter Hammy. Our uber-handsome Mastiff/Sharpei mix who not only embodies both of his breeds to a tee but also the looks of the wrinkly, squishable animals mentioned above. When we met Hambone he was underweight, desperately in need of entropian surgery to correct his painfully inverted eyelashes and most of all, in need of a lot of love. It was clear that life had not been kind to him. Thankfully, his awesome, patient and experienced foster family saw his potential and took on the task of working diligently with him to re-build his trust in humans and prepare him for his forever home. Now a silly, slobbery, snorty, doofus, Hamm has become a well-rounded boy who enjoys his time with toys, playtime with his canine foster brother and nap time sprawled out on the living room floor. At 100lbs. Mr. Doritos ears will do best with a family who has large breed experience and understands that true to his Mastiff and Sharpei backgrounds, he is as strong as he is stubborn, and will need a confident, loving approach from his new people. Hammy loves to give hugs and his exuberant affection coupled with his size makes him too much for little kiddos but a great fit for those 16+. Other dog friends are just fine in Hammy’s book as long as they are even tempered, non-reactive, playful and on the larger side, since Hammy's rough and tumble play style can be misunderstood. For obvious reasons, cats are a no go. Hammy is housebroken, crate trained, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and a complete slobbery goober who will steal your whole heart.
