Although Delaney is stunning, she is a working dog and is very busy. She loves to go, go, go! That said, she is very gentle and is eager to please, very sensitive, and super smart. She is tentative of new situations and people, so continued socialization is necessary.

Delaney was purchased as a tiny puppy, and left to her own devices. Many dogs who are working dogs, are dumped when people realize the level of proper management that’s involved in owning one. This breed is not for everyone. Please do your research prior to applying to adopt.

We suspect Delaney was either left outside, or locked away in a bedroom somewhere, and then dumped at the shelter when she became too much to handle. She was afraid of everything when arriving in her foster home. The ceiling fans, heat running, exhaust fans, television and every day noises sent her into a tizzy. These are things we have worked with over time and while she is an EXCELLENT girl, her adopter must be patient and kind while she gets acclimated to her new home.

Delaney needs a confident handler, but one who will not try to strong arm her. Unlike many other working breeds who often work well under strong personality types, she does not respond well to gruff techniques. She does not like being yelled at, leash corrected or grabbed. She isn’t reactive at all, but t will break any trust built. She is very compliant and works best with a gentle hand. We continue to teach her that the “boogeyman” isn’t after her. She is a work in progress.

She is a dream on leash, crate trained and does awesome with other dogs. She lives with dog savvy cats who have taken to playing chase with her, so sensitive kitties need not apply. She is petite, about 70lbs.

Adoption fee $350 (all MVPC dogs are heartworm-tested, completely vetted, spayed/neutered and microchipped)
