Meet Misty

Misty is a young adult female English Setter mix estimated to be 2.5 years old. She was found wandering on a farm outside of Ontario, Oregon in October, 2017. Failing to find an owner Misty entered the Powder Pals dog training program in Baker City in December 2017. Powder Pals is a dog rescue and training program at the Powder River State Correctional Facility. Inmates do the daily care, exercise and training of dogs. Volunteers of New Hope for Eastern Oregon Animals oversee the program.
Misty has now graduated from her training and is ready for her home and person. She is an intelligent dog who learns quickly. She mastered 16 obedience commands over a period of several months. Her favorite activities include playing fetch and retrieve, taking walks, and simply being with her person. She will play fetch for hours if allowed. She is also treat motivated, having been trained under a positive reward system that included dog treats, and praise. She is generally good to leash walk with via a Martingale collar or harness. She is in good health. She is current on shots, micro chipped and spayed. She is athletic, making daily exercise an important part of her routine with her person to maintain health and lessen boredom tendencies.
She came into training as a loving, affectionate dog and remains outstandingly so around all humans. She especially enjoys cuddling with people and receiving hugs. Outside of humans, she is good around kind dogs and not good around aggressive dogs. She has a tendency to remember unkind dogs and act aggressively towards them. She would best fit in a home as the only dog. She has learned to ignore cats. Caution is urged in introducing her to a home with cats. On her walks she becomes very focused on small mammals, such as ground squirrels, darting around in front of her, and a variety of birds. As a hunting breed, she will occasionally point a bird, particularly quail. While we do not train dogs to hunt in a prison, Misty appears capable to being a successfully trained hunting dog.

Her adoption fee is $250. For further information please contact Richard Haines at 541-403-0724. Or submit an electronic application via our web site www.newhopeforanimals.org
