Meet Buddy (JH)

Buddy is a 2-year old Labrador/Australian Shepherd who weighs in at 60 pounds. True to his Lab nature, he is looking for three things in life: Somebody to follow around with total loyalty, someone to play with, and someone to love. A couple of squirrels to chase wouldn’t hurt, either.

Buddy loves to play. He will chase a ball and return it for as long as you care to throw it, or until your arm falls off. If you are not around, he will happily play with his toys by himself. If other dogs are around, then the fun really begins. Buddy lives in a foster home with 10-12 other dogs, a constantly rotating population, and all of them much smaller than he is. He LOVES them all. Regardless of their size or age, Buddy is going to incite playfulness. He will crouch before them, nudge them, herd them, chase them until they start playing with him. Boys just wanna have fun.

When it’s time to come inside, Buddy’s house manners are excellent. He is housetrained and crate-trained. He doesn’t mark. He is not a barky dog, though he will let you know when he perceives a threat to the house, or possibly when there’s a cheeky squirrel outside teasing him. Buddy will sit on command.

When you come home from work, or from the store, or from 5 minutes in the garage, Buddy will be overjoyed to see you. He will twirl and dance, and when you let him outside, he will run circle 8s in your honor.

Whither you goest, Buddy will follow. He will move with you from room to room in the house and will plop down on him tummy with his rear legs splayed out in classic frog style—both stinkingly cute and funny. Buddy stays on the floor of his own preference. He will not get up on the furniture. He sleeps on the floor in the bedroom.

If he decides he wants some attention, Buddy will stand up to his full height, plant his feet on your lap and stare directly into your eyes, at which point you have no choice but to slather him with affection and tell him what a good boy he is!

If you have been very, very good, Buddy might favor you with some kisses. This will be a delicate matter, however. He will not attempt to exfoliate your face with his tongue. And unlike some Labs, he does not slobber.

Buddy does require a yard with a secure fence as he is a curious fellow and will happily take any opportunity to explore. He would be an excellent dog for a family with older children, or for a couple or single wanting an active, loyal, well-mannered dog. He has been in foster care for a long time (Hint: big black dog) and is so deserving of a good home and his own people to love.

Buddy's adoption fee is $150.
