Meet Tater

This is Tater-Tot:). Tater came to STAF after he was found running loose in and out of traffic. After numerous attempts to find Tater’s family we sadly realized that no one was looking for this adorable puppy face. So now Tater is part of the STAF family and it will be our goal to find this little guy his dream home of a lifetime.

Since arriving at STAF it was discovered that Tater had a rare condition that caused his front leg bones to bow as he continued to grow. We sought the best orthopedic vets in the area and we were told that Tater needed a surgery that would correct the bowing of his legs and if he didn’t get the surgery; eventually he would not be able to walk. Well we at STAF do what we do best; we had a fundraiser, scheduled Tater’s surgery and found Tater a place to recuperate. Tater had his surgery late August and is more than on his way to recovery in the home of a generous volunteer. This incredible volunteer shared that Tater is one of the best dog-house guests she has EVER had at her house. Tater is ready and waiting to meet potential suitors!!!

Tater is about 15 months old and looks to be a mix of terrier/boxer and standard brown dog:) Tater has the cutest speckled nose we have ever seen in over 25 years of being in the rescue business. Simply adorable!

Tater is still a happy go lucky puppy! UPDATE:) Tater recently had his splints removed and is learning to use his new and improved legs:). Once he is steady you will find that this boy is magnificent on leash and will make those who get their daily exercise by walking their dog, very happy indeed to have such a gem on lead. Tater always proudly holds tennis ball in his mouth while on his daily strolls and he makes sure to show his tennis ball to everyone he meets. Tater does know some basic obedience and he will definitely work for treats or tennis balls.

Just like any other dog, Tater will benefit from positive based training which will also help to build his confidence. Positive training, along with plenty of opportunity for exercise, lots of love and puppy patience and Tater will be an amazing addition to a very lucky family. This boy is beyond special and so ready to find his home.

Tater needs: A patient home to work with him as he learns to walk with his new legs. Positive based training to build confidence.
Tater would love: A fenced yard to play in.
Tater’s estimated birth date is May 2017

Please see our homepage for visiting hours and adoption details.

All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots.

Visit our website www.staf.org to download our application.

We do not do same-day adoptions; we ask that you return for a follow-up visit before taking an animal home.

You must be 21 years or older to adopt a dog from STAF

We require a physical fence for homes with children under the age of 11. We also may require a physical fence for specific dogs on a case-by-case basis, depending on each dog's behavior and exercise needs.

Invisible fences - Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training--we cannot adopt to homes with invisible fences unless otherwise noted in a dog's online profile.

We do request vet and personal references.

At this time, we are only able to consider applicants within 75 miles of Cincinnati.

Can’t adopt but want to help? You can make a difference! Our shelter is run entirely on volunteer-power and generous donations from animal-lovers like you. 100% of your contribution goes directly to caring for our 500+ furry residents. Thank you for your support.
