2y 50lb Sparkle looks like a Boston crossed w/ a Pitti...so that would make her a Bitti!
a vol writes: “All that glitters is not gold, it sparkles!” And our Sparkle lives up to her name in every way. She’s playful, fun, sweet, loves toys and balls, never stops wagging her tail, and has the best ear-to-ear grin. When she isn’t smiling, which is rare, you can see her adorably pouty underlip–which you’ll want to schmush, trust me on that. Sparkle executes a perfect sit in anticipation of a treat which she takes gently with a sweet wave of her tail. Sparkle spent a few days with a person who developed allergies so couldn’t keep her, and told us that she was friendly, gentle and playful with the children in the home (ages 5 and up). Sparkle seems to be housetrained, using the outside ‘facilities’ as soon as we were out the door, before I take her off leash to play. No need to go to the movies or seek outside entertainment when this little imp is by your side. She’ll be happy with a box full of toys and balls! Guaranteed that you’ll be wearing an ear to ear grin as big as Sparkle’s, so come meet her today. You’ll want to make her yours and we’ll send you home with a tennis ball for her for starters!
Sparkle is a brown and white, female large breed dog roughly 2 years old. She was being looked after by a neighbor once her owner lost her home but he cannot take care of her anymore due to his severe allergies towards the dog. Socialization: Around strangers Sparkle is friendly and outgoing. She lived with children ages 5 years and older and was very playful and gentle with them. She plays exuberant with adults and it is unknown how she is with other dogs. She is tolerant around cats but if they swat at her she becomes aggressive. Behavior: Sparkle gets anxious when left alone. She isn’t bothered when her food bowl is touched and is friendly and playful when taking away and bone or toy. For a New Family to Know: Sparkle is friendly and affectionate with a very high activity level. She loves balls, chew bones and sticks to play with and enjoys a long game of fetch. Her commands are sit, down come and stay. She loves walks on the leash and pulls light. Behavior During Intake: She went straight to me walking forward with a wiggling body. She was very wiggly while collaring her which made it difficult to collar her but I did. She allowed me to take a picture and she walked into the kennel with no hesitation.

SAFER ASSESSMENT: 9/7/17 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Summary: Sparkle displayed no concerning behaviors on her assessment and was social throughout. PLAYGROUP: 9/6: When introduced off leash to the male greeter dog, Sparkle appears tense. She is soft in body and eye contact, sniffs, exchanges greeting. Sparkle offers bows, begins to solicit running play. She runs alongside the male greeter and begins to jump on him. She offers small air-snaps. Sparkle is able to self-regulate this behavior and continues to run alongside playfully. Based on limited observation and history, the behavior department recommends slow introductions between Sparkle and well socialized dogs. INTAKE BEHAVIOR: Upon intake, Sparkle had a wiggly body and allowed handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/6/17 During her initial medical exam, Sparkle allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Sparkle’s previous care taker described her as having a very high level of activity. She is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)

Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people.
