UPDATE: Tucker passed away recently. Patches is still looking for her forever home. She is now 10 years old and misses her companion. A home with an adult male dog would be ideal.

Patches and Tucker are energetic, very healthy, 9-year old , 45-50 lb Purebred Field English Setters whose elderly owner passed away. They have been in foster for a while with a family member who already has multiple dogs. They adjusted so well to that new environment; we know they are ready for their new forever home!
Both came from Havelock Setters in New England and are registered in the Field Stud book. They have been raised together since pups, so ideally, we would love to see them stay together. Given the perfect situation, we will consider separating them.
Tucker and Patches are very friendly, happy, soft tempered, loving dogs. Due to physical limitations of their prior owner, they were mainly house pets that didn’t get a ton of exposure or formal training, but do know basic sit / lie down / stay and are house broken. They love being house dogs. Loud noises are a little scary, but they recover quickly. Thunder storms terrify Patches, so those require extra care for her.
They are pretty excited to get out into the world and do pull on leash. A gentle leader may be great initially while they learn some leash manners. They are well behaved indoors but have been known to dig a nice cool spot to lie in if left unsupervised outdoors for long periods of time.
They were raised with a cat in the home with no known issues. Patches isn’t trustworthy with other females and Tucker is very easy going all around. Tucker is a little more submissive so Patches might occasionally try to eat his leftovers, especially a high value meal, but she is learning to leave it alone. They get along famously, are typically fed together and are almost always just loose together, indoors or out.
At 9 yrs old, these guys are still very active. Their favorite thing is to run, point and chase the birds in the acre dog yard at the foster home. They will do best with a decent size yard (secure 5 ft fencing) to run off some energy or someone who is active enough to take them out for daily walks or runs. Patches has dug under flimsy field fencing a couple times…..she just knows there are just so many exciting things to go see in the world! Given ample exercise, they are calm and content to be indoors. They are happy to lie at your feet (or to be on the couch with you like mom use to allow!). They do think an open door is just an invitation out to run and chase birds, so you’ll have to watch doors until they get settled in and learn the ropes.
Initially, Tucker and Patches barked a bit. As they became accustomed to the new sights and sounds, got daily exercise and consistent reminders to “BE QUIET” (which was heavily praised on each success..They LOVE to hear what good dogs they are!) they now only occasionally bark at loud vehicles or trains.
Both dogs are current on core vaccines and monthly heartworm, are spayed and neutered and micro chipped. The foster keeps their feet, leg, pants and belly furnishings trimmed so their beautiful silky coats don’t pick up stickers so have gotten quite adept at getting bathed and groomed on a grooming table!
They can’t wait to have someone to snuggle up with again and call their own!
