Meet Jeannie

Update August 3, 2017: Jeannie was adopted.

We've all had that friend. The extra beautiful or super handsome one. All dazzling teeth and great hair. But, when you began to spend more time with them, you discovered that they were just a little bit high maintenance. Jeannie is a little like that. She's a stunner. A beauty. Gorgeous eyes, glossy coat, athletic figure. And just a little bit high maintenance.

Jeannie's an extraordinarily smart girl. She's active, eager to learn and responsive to commands. She just hasn't had the right amount of socialization in her young life. As a result, she takes a little time to get used to new things. She needs a good 24 hours before she gets used to new dogs. But in her foster home, she's been able to get over her initial reactive response and make great friends with the other fosters and resident dogs. She barks at cats, but is really just scared of them. She is wary of meeting new people and will bark to beat the band, especially men. She also barks at unfamiliar sounds. True to her breed, Jeannie is a herder and has taken to carefully keeping track of the puppies in her foster home - treating them just like her flock.

Jeannie needs a leader to help her build her confidence and use her brain. Jeannie is sweet and affectionate with the people she is familiar with and would be suited to homes with children over 12 that can play a role in ensuring she gets consistency in her training. She isn't suited to a home where there is little structure and no demands made of her. With her smarts, lithe athletic ability, not to mention her great looks, she'd be a star in any agility or rally ring. Training Jeannie will be the right kind of challenge - one that is richly rewarding.

Jeannie is fully housetrained and is excellent in her crate. With her high energy level, a family with someone at home most of the time would be best.

If you can devote the time and energy to give this beauty the kind of life she deserves, please apply to adopt her.

If you'd like to adopt Jeannie, please read about HART's screening process and download an adoption application to submit from the website: http://www.hartdogrescue.ca/adopt

An adoption donation of $350 applies and a fenced yard is required. Jeannie is spayed, up to date with her vaccines, heartworm tested negative, microchipped and in great health. She comes with one month of free pet insurance. Her birthday is April 16, 2016 and weighs 35 lbs.

Pet listings are updated daily. Unless it says otherwise at the top of this bio, this dog is still available for adoption.
