Meet Trixie

UPDATE July 5, 2017: Trixie was adopted.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Who hasn't had a bad haircut? It can't be that bad, you thought, sitting in the stylist's chair. I just need to wash it when I get home. Maybe a bit of gel. Worst case scenario, I'll wear a hat.

That bad hair didn't stop you. It grew back, you moved on. That's what Trixie's done too. This resilient girl has kept going despite awful circumstances, obvious neglect and some really, really bad hair.

Trixie came under the care of HART after she was found as a stray by a kind stranger. Trixie was in terrible shape. She had massive skin infections. She had lost much of her hair and probably felt as miserable as she looked. Trixie was immediately put on a course of treatment. While she began to feel better fairly quickly, it has taken some time for her hair to grow back, but it is! Now that her full recovery is well underway, this adorable, happy, well mannered girl is ready to join her forever family.

Trixie's foster family can't say enough good things about her. She gets along well with the resident dog. She is polite when meeting new dogs and is very playful with canine friends who have a similar play style. She is fully housetrained and hasn't had the slightest accident. She loves to bark when it's walk time, or play time, or when someone comes to visit. She takes a few minutes to get comfortable after meeting someone new. She has been around small children and is respectful but Trixie is more suited to a family with children over the age of 12. She is good in the car but will bark a bit if she's anxious -- she likes to know where she's going! She is learning to use a crate but she's been a very good girl when she's given some freedom in the house. She isn't quite sure what cats are supposed to be but she hasn't shown any aggression towards them, just curiosity.

Trixie's foster mom says "She's highly trainable and aims to please. She knows sit, down, stay and give a paw. She is also highly food motivated and will let you take toys or food from her without any problems. Such a good girl!".

Trixie requires a detached home with a fully fenced and secure yard. If you think you can give Trixie the love and attention that she deserves, please apply to adopt her. She would love nothing more than to curl up on the couch with you and listen to your bad haircut stories.

If you'd like to adopt Trixie, please read about HART's screening process and download an adoption application to submit from the website: http://www.hartdogrescue.ca/adopt

An adoption donation of $350 applies and a fenced yard is required. Trixie will be spayed before adoption, is up to date with her vaccines, microchipped and in good health (well, besides the missing hair thing). She also comes with one month of free pet insurance. She is approximately 3-4 years old and weighs 40 lbs.

Pet listings are updated daily. Unless it says otherwise at the top of this bio, this dog is still available for adoption.
