Ruger is looking for everlasting love! Commitment is very important to Ruger! This tall, dark and handsome gentleman wants to be your everything, in that he would love it if you worked from home, or he could go to work with you. He would also be thrilled if you were maybe retired so you could just spend your days taking chill walks, binge watching Netflix and/or rolling around in the grass. He is willing to offer his fill support to any project you might be working on. Ruger is up for adventure.......or not, but if you do get a wild hair he will be your most loyal copilot. Ruger likes his whipped cream straight up and his burgers caveman style. He also likes cool, crisp water to wet his paws in, but most importantly he LOVES people. He wants to be with his people/person and know that he is valued and secure. Are you Ruger's soulmate!?
Previous posts: If you are looking for a dog that just wants to be with you he is your dog. Ruger would make a great "take your dog to work" companion or would love someone that is home a lot. He really does want to be your most devoted and faithful companion. He is happiest when he can just lay quietly in the same room with you. He is very quiet.
He is big boy and strong, but he is a great listener and a gentle giant. He does not understand kitties and has zero patience for them, so needs to go to a kitty free home. He does great with dogs in play groups, although due to his size, tiny dogs would probably not make the best companion for this fella!
He appears to be about 6.
He is a work in progress and a diamond in the ruff
He is learning his basic obedience and doing well at Good Citizen Dog. He's very smart. Most of the time he will just lay down close and never bother you.
He takes his treats so gently and he allows you to take treats and toys from him with no problem.
He doesn't bug you while you are eating.
He will walk next to you nicely if you let him know that where you want him.
He rides nicely in the car in the back seat.
He does get nervous sometimes and will chew his leash if left on him.
He is such a sweetheart. He would love a yard that is fenced well where he could run some energy off or a person who loves to walk.
He's a dog who just wants to be your buddy.
ATTENTION all Lab Lovers! Our adorable lab Ruger seems to be a victim of the black fur curse. Sometimes animals with black fur can be overlooked, and it seems to be taking it's toll on Ruger. We can't imagine why, because Ruger would love nothing more than to find a life long human companion. Ruger does not like the kennel environment, and really needs to find a home where he can simply relax. He is mellow, and good with other animals, and really just wants to be as near as he can to all people. Dog trainer Lou at Good Citizen Dog Training recently met with Ruger to assess him, and called him a "Velcro dog". Lou also said that Ruger was a bit shy at first, but warmed up, and was so good at staying focused on him for direction. He will continue to work with Lou to become the best dog he can until his people come to rescue him. Please help us find Ruger a home, and a best friend's lap to rest in. You can help us by simply sharing Ruger's story on social media. Ruger is sweet, mellow, and wants nothing more than to be your teddy bear. He seems to be good with other dogs and cats, walks great on a leash, knows his basic manners, and is an all around great guy. He's been let down a few times in the past, and has been in a kennel for a long time, so there might be an adjustment period while he gets through that stress and anxiety. This love bug is so worth it!"
