Domino’s Story: Domino was originally adopted from Pet Haven in 2016. While in foster care, he demonstrated no issues. After being adopted, he began to show signs of resource guarding, specifically in regards to his space on the bed. With consultation from a professional, Domino has been given furniture restrictions since returning to Pet Haven and this has eliminated his resource guarding issue. Therefore, we are looking for a home who can appreciate his cuddly, spunky personality but will enforce a no-furniture, no-bed policy for the rest of his life.

Hobbies: Domino is a happy and playful boy who loves going on daily walks. He also dances in circles when he is excited and loves to smell everything. Domino is also an expert and giving kisses and cuddling.

Commands and Tricks: Domino knows sit and stay. He knows recall commands but when outside he is often too interested in all the smells to remember how that command works. ;)

Crate and House-Trained: Domino is potty trained and crate trained. He will sometimes mark in a new home if there are old animal urine smells but he is otherwise reliably housetrained. He is crated overnight (8 hours) and while his fosters are at work (9 hours) and he does great with this (not a peep!) as long as he gets in a short (.5 mile) walk before they leave for work and again when they get home.

Activity Level: Medium. Domino has bursts of playfulness but also likes to curl up at your feet. He gets very excited about walks and is more relaxed in the home if he has his daily walk.

Who Domino Currently Lives with: Domino currently lives with two adults and their two dogs - one crabby 12 year old dominant male Australian Shepherd and one spunky/playful 8 month old beagle mix. He does well with both of them. He has also had a lot of exposure to kids and although he has always done fabulous with them, because of the resource guarding behavior he has observed in his previous home, we will not allow him to be adopted to a home where he will have regular, frequent exposure to young children just to keep risk factors as low as possible.

Domino’s Ideal Family: Due to the resource guarding concerns, his foster family recommends that Domino not live with small children and he should be supervised when visiting children are present. Domino will truly thrive in a home where he receives structure (i.e. he is kenneled at night and not allowed on the furniture or bed) and regular intellectual stimulation (food puzzles, obedience training, agility, etc.) and physical stimulation (daily walks, dog park visits, etc.). When he receives each of those elements he is the PERFECT dog who is as cuddly as he is adorable.


Domino will be attending Pet Haven's adoption events. His adoption fee is $320 (cash or check only) and includes spay/neuter, heartworm check, current vaccinations, and microchip and registration.

Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs into homes within a 60-mile radius of the Twin Cities area.
