Meet Ozzy

When we pull a dog from a county shelter that was surrendered by its owner, we know that he/she probably won't be altered and may have fleas, intestinal parasites, or both. And, more often than not, if it's a long-haired dog, it will probably need to be groomed. But poor little Ozzy was in even worse shape than usual. The coat of this little Dachshund/Poodle mix was nothing but hard mats that were embedded with dried and wet feces. No telling how long this poor little dog had been suffering but it would have taken months for his coat to get into such terrible condition. Our hearts immediately went out to Ozzy and we knew he was going to need to be sedated to rid him of his mats. Because he was also suffering from dehydration, we knew he would require medical attention, too, as quickly as possible. Ozzy spent 4 days at the vet - three of those days he was on IV fluids to treat severe dehydration - and had to be sedated in order for them to shave him down and relieve his discomfort. Despite the poor treatment he's received from humans in the past, Ozzy isn't holding a grudge and is just a super sweet little fella. He doesn't seem to meet a stranger and meets everyone at his kennel door with his whole body - all 7 lbs of it - wagging like crazy. We don't know if Ozzy is house-trained but he usually does a very good job of using the newspaper in his kennel if he has to go potty when he's inside. We also don't know yet how Ozzy is with children, cats, or dogs (other than the ones he came in with). Because of his tiny stature, he wouldn't be a good choice for households where young children live or frequently visit. It wouldn't take much of a 'hug' or very high of a fall from being accidentally dropped for Ozzy to be hurt. If you have experience with Dachshunds or have done your research on the breed, Ozzy may be the canine companion you've been searching for. To find out if he would be a good fit for you and your household, just stop by the shelter and ask to spend some time with him. Primary Color: Brown Brindle Weight: 7.4 Animal has been Neutered I am available for adoption at the Animal Care Society.
