Meet Jax

JANUARY 14, 2013 UPDATEJax is aging well. He is a sweet boy that could go to a pet home now. He likes to run but would love to curl up and be warm. He is a furry guy that will bolt his winter coat this spring.
OCTOBER 3, 2009 UPDATE Jax has been an integral part of his adopter's team but the owner has to move to another country to take care of family so it is with great heartache that he is giving up his dogs. Jax is a larger very powerful boy. Although he is getting older (probably around 8 ) he still loves to run. He is housebroken and knows many commands including sit, shake and down. He runs lead also and would probably make a good skijoring dog. JANUARY 3, 2006 UPDATE Jax is doing well this winter, running distances of up to about 15 miles. He is a good puller and leads, so would do well in a skijoring home. He is an easy keeper and his nice coat of fur keeps him warm. Jax is a friendly dog who would make a nice companion. FEBRUARY 3, 2005: AVAILABLE NOW Jax is presently in a mushing home. He has run 4-6 miles and done quite well in harness. Jax is 4 years old. He did not like a new baby that arrived in his home, so he was surrendered to the shelter. We do not recommend him for a household that has children under 10 years of age. Jax was originally adopted from the shelter. He is a nice boy who gets along with most dogs and is ok with cats. He is housebroken and knows Down, Speak, Sit and Shake. Jax is playful but can be a little rough, and is energetic. He is not good with chickens. Jax has current rabies and distemper vaccinations, and is tattooed and neutered. Our volunteers took Jax mushing on Dec 18th. He ran in a 7-dog team for 3+ miles: "Jax was turned in as a pet but I thought we could give him a chance -- good thing too!!! Jax was EXCELLENT, despite it likely being his first time in a team. He got the idea quickly and finished the run in lead!!!! This dog is phenomenal....you really have to see him. Jax is probably 60-65 lbs and all legs, he fit easily into a blue tug. Running in the team he did great, fine with other dogs and never let off his tug. Jax has a nice gait and seems like he could be fast! Once switched up to lead he did awesome and seemed like he had been doing it all his life. This would likely be an excellent skijor dog with plenty of power or a great asset to a team."
