Meet LADYBUG

***LADYBUG IS CURRENTLY BEING TREATED FOR HEARTWORMS. SHE CAN GO HOME NOW WITH A LOCAL ADOPTER WHO CAN BRING HER IN TO OUR CLINIC ON A COUPLE OF DESIGNATED DATES. DETAILS BELOW.***
Sweet Ladybug is a Poodle/Terrier mix and she is a senior citizen, probably at least 10 years old. She came to us from a local county shelter. Someone turned her in claiming she was a stray (unlikely, but that was their story). Ladybug had obviously been living outside for a long time. She was totally filthy and matted, skinny and really pitiful.. (see photo 2) She has cataracts, but she seems to see and hear okay. She moves kind of slow and isn't always steady on her feet, but she gets around pretty well with the exception of slippery wood floors. She is very quiet, mellow, and affectionate. She loves to be petted and she loves treats. She is excellent with children and other pets.
We did senior bloodwork on her, and she's actually in pretty good health from an organ function standpoint. She did test positive for heartworms, which is not surprising considering she had likely been outside in a backyard for a very long time. We did a dental cleaning on her last week and she also had a small bump removed from her head (hence the scar on her noggin, which will not even be noticeable once her fur grows back).
Heartworm treatment is an 8 week process and she is now on week 2. For now she just gets daily oral antibiotics. In two weeks she will go to our clinic in Lawrenceville for her first immiticide injection. That's the drug that kills the worms. Four weeks later, she will get two more injections, then she's done. During this treatment process, she has to be kept quiet, which isn't hard to do because she is not an active dog at all. She sleeps a lot, partly due to her age and partly because of the heartworms.
We don't know how much time Ladybug has left, but we are hoping to get at least a few more good years out of her. These older dogs often surprise us and do better than we expect. Any time you adopt a senior, you have to be okay with a lot of unknowns. Basically, Ladybug just needs a nice retirement home where she can live out her days being spoiled, making up for the love and care she missed out on before. If you'd like to adopt this dear girl, please apply at www.sohfga.com. Thank you!
Ladybug is fully vetted -- spayed/neutered, , and current on vaccinations and deworming. The adoption fee is $150 (cash only, please). You can apply to adopt by submitting an application via our website at http://www.sohfga.com/, or by selecting the e-mail inquiry option on this page. We hold adoptions at Petco in Snellville from 12-4 every Saturday. Not every pet is present on every adoption day, so if you want to meet this one, be sure and contact us! PLEASE do not call our spay/neuter clinic with questions about this pet. We can only respond to email inquiries. Thanks!
**Due to their small size, our young puppies cannot go to homes with children under the age of 6. Thank you for your understanding.
