Meet Sophie (Schnoodle)

YOU MUST HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION IN ORDER TO SET UP A TIME TO MEET OUR PETS.

Sophie is a 6 year old, 29 pound (needs to lose weight!!) Schnoodle whose just came to us at the start of May since her owner was dying of cancer and could no longer keep her pets. Sophie is used to living with a Chihuahua (male) and cats and did well with all. She came to us in need of a haircut and she got one - see picture two.

Her recent owner rescued her from a situation in which the children were abusing her. Because of her history of this and leading a quiet life in her old home, Sophie can be a bit wary of new people. She is absolutely not an aggressive dog but she may growl or bark in uncertainty at first but then, just as soon as she figures out new people are safe, which can be a matter of minutes, especially if they offer tasty treats once she relaxes, Sophie is sweet and loving. She is the type of pup who just likes time to assess a situation before diving in.

Within about 10 minutes, she was relaxed enough to play with toys and get snuggles at her photo session.

She met the person interacting with her and filming her video just minutes earlier. She does seem to be much more comfortable with females and she was perfectly fine and friendly when our rescue owner went to the home to transport Sophie and her friend. She was also great for her bath, nail trim and vaccinations the very first day she was with us. She truly is a lovely girl, just a bit bewildered by the sudden change from a home to a kennel environment.

We will not adopt Sophie into a home with children since she has a history of being abused by them. She would probably be happiest in an all female home since that is what she is used to but we think she will be fine with any man that she has learned to trust. With a little patience, she should be comfortable and will not feel the need to retreat or feel nervous.

Sophie is also much more confident with a doggie friend that is sociable. Here at the kennel, she is immediately more comfortable when we bring in her Chihuahua friend and she warms up to new people very quickly with her buddy around and a few treats offered. We would really like her to have a friendly, confident companion dog in her new home, whether it is your current dog or her current friend, if you would like to adopt two cuties. Her friend Ernie (also listed on our website) is a snuggly doll baby.

We were told that Sophie is already housetrained. There was some use of pee pads in her past.

Sophie is currently very overweight and should probably be closer to 20 pounds.
Her prior owner let the dogs out into a fenced yard to potty so Sophie is not used to leash walks or much of a social life. She will greatly benefit from being gently introduced to new things and places. She will certainly appreciate exercise and exploring with her new family.

She does love to zoom around our play yard with doggie friends, including some new ones. She has been fine with the other rescue pups here.

Sophie will be fabulous in a new home with a new owner who is experienced with initially timid dogs and who has a sweet doggie friend for Sophie. All Sophie needs is positive experiences and confidence building. Remember, no resident children, please. Any men in her new home will need to give her space and time, please. Sophie is brand new to us so we will be working with her here to show her that men are awesome, too!
