Meet Rory

Rory (was Bailey) is a 9 year old bichon frise.and weighs about 18 pounds. Rory needs a special adopter.

Rory is a very social dog. He follows me around the house at all times (I am the only one in the house). He never lets me out of his sight if he can help it. He loves to lay down in my lap or next to me with his head resting on my leg. He is about 95% potty trained, but I am gone for about 10 hours a day so once in awhile he has an accident,or he is marking. In either case, I know where he will go potty so I put down a potty pad.

Rory is very good with the two small (9 pound) dogs and two cats that he lives with. There has never been a problem or a snap or bark at any of the other pets. He mingles very well. However, he is protective of his food, as most pets are, so I feed them all in separate areas.

Rory is very cautious about going outside without me. He does not want to stay out long and sticks close to the door. He does come right away when called.

Rory LOVES to go for walks. He will jump with exuberance when he sees his leash.. The jumping is from excitement, not aggression. On his walk, he is very curious and looks at everything around him. We have gone walking for 3 miles at a time and he would go further without a problem. He is a great walking companion, he walks fast and does not stop to sniff. However, he is extremely nervous in the car. He will cry and cannot seem to calm down.

Rory should not be around children at all or around anyone who will reach to touch him. He is very skeptical of anyone, including me, who reaches down to him. He is unsure if he is going to be hit, so he is defensive. He always keeps an eye on my hand, which I think is a sign that he was hit.

I feel that an adult only home with one or two people is ideal for him. Rory needs an experienced dog owner who will be patient and allow Rory the time to build trust with his new people, no matter how long that may take. He needs a family that will not grab out at him but who will allow him to decide when he wants to be pet until he can build trust with his new family.

Rory seemed agitated when I was talking to a male neighbor,he may be afraid of men .I never reach down to pet him so as not to startle him. He wags his tail, but sometimes it is pointed down when it is wagging. I think that is a sign of fright. During the times when I tell him he is a good boy and have a very positive and soothing tone in my voice, Rory's tail wags high up in the air.

I took Rory to have his face and head trimmed. The groomers took him in back and were done in 10 minutes. They said that they had no problems at all with the grooming.

The underside of Rory's ears were very red. I've been giving him a grain free food, and they seem a little better. If they continue to seem irritated, my next step would be to eliminate chicken to see if that is the culprit.

One time when Rory marked in the house, I said "what did you do...". Rory started to visibly shake. I am certain that he was hit after that was said to him in his prior life. I also noticed that he watches intently when I have a brush in my hand, it could be that he was hit with one.

Rory does not know how to take treats gently out of someone's hand. I toss treats to him and he does extremely well with catching them.

Rory was weary of me at first. I do not reach down to pet him, rather I will get down to his level and pet him. I put my hand out and wiggle my fingers and he will come over and put his head under my hand so that I will pet him. I feel that Rory should not be pushed, but be allowed time to become comfortable with his new environment.

Rory's adoption fee includes his/her transport to safety, 1st grooming/bath, spay/neuter, rabies and distemper vaccinations, fecal, heartworm tests, de-worming, flea/tick treatment if required, microchip, collar, and any other vet care that's required during his/her stay with us. Adoption Donation is: $150
