Mariska American Eskimo Dog & Border Collie Mix Winnipeg, MB

Mariska is a 4 year old, spayed American Eskimo/Border Collie mix, although she seems to be mostly Eskie in her looks and attitude.

Mariska is one of over 100 dogs removed from a hoarding situation in Saskatchewan. After a year in foster care, she is still learning to be a pet after spending most of her life living outside (in the rough) with minimal human contact surrounded by many of her canine relatives.

Mariska (also known as Risky) is a very gentle girl and has become braver around humans. She loves to begin and end her day with pets on the bed although she sleeps all night on the floor. Risky has medium energy, is house trained, loves relaxing in her crate and enjoys walking on leash with another confident dog. Although she is timid around people, she loves hanging out with her foster family. Risky is great with other dogs, but is looking for a quieter home with no small children, and preferably with a calm dog to be a companion.

Mariska will take time to warm and feel safe with her new family. She is a flight risk. After three months in her current foster home, patience has been rewarded as she now let's her foster mum approach to pet her or take her collar. Risky will only be adopted into a home with an experienced dog person that has a securely fenced yard.

Risky needs a family of her own that is willing to continue to give her time to build her confidence and enjoy her gentle companionship.

* As of August 15th, we have raised our adoption fees. Our veterinary costs have increased so unfortunately we have to defray the costs. It is not a substantial increase, and rescue is still the most inexpensive way to have a dog join your family! Where else can you get a beautiful, loving and loyal friend, who comes completely vetted for such a small cost? Only through rescue!
